Tv loses reception

We just purchase a used 2011 Denali 289RK. We were acquainting ourselves on how things worked today. We have a Jensen wideband antenna for the TV. When I turn on the bathroom light the reception to the TV is lost. Turn off the light and the reception comes back. Anyone have any ideas on what may be the cause?

There is a antenna amplifier behind the TV. For some reason both your trailer and mine get the power for the amplifier through the bathroom light switch. I thought maybe mine was mis-wired but now I'm wondering if all the 289RK trailers share this weird quirk. I plan to dig into this further.

I'll guess that the on/off switch to the lamp is wired on the ground side. Somebody didn't know that, and tapped the amp into it. When the switch is open, 12v is available through the lamp (in series) and is enough to run the amp. When turned "on" that side becomes ground, and the amp gets zero volts. If my hypothesis is correct, removing the light bulb will also disconnect power and kill the amp. Just a guess! (in many 12V circuits, black is ground, but in 120 vac, black is hot.... could be part of some confusion???)

Thanks for the replies. I will see about removing the amplifier from the wall and running its own wire to the electric panel.

I guess they fixed the problem by the 2014 model. To verify Marty's and Occupants diagnosis, your amp LED should be on with the bathroom lights off, then with the lights on, the LED should turn off. Hopefully, that will be the case and shouldn't be to hard to fix. My amp is located behind the TV in the entertainment center which shares the wall with the bathroom. I would start looking be pulling down the bathroom light and see if it is connected improperly there.

If the LED remains on with the lights on, I don't even know where I would begin to look.

I just finished doing that today. I pulled out the amplifier/selector switch panel and routed new power wires down to the sound system power wires. Since I had to route it through a hole drilled through a furring strip I had to use a length of coat hanger wire to tread the wires from the amplifier to the radio. Turned out to be an easy fix to do. No more losing the TV because someone turned the bathroom light off.
