That's why I took mine down also... but instead of rebuilding the mount, I simply bought a couple of 24" USB & HDMI extension cables for my Apple TV and thumb-drives. So now I can easily switch things in/out and update the tv software when desired.

I pulled the fixed mount and installed a swing out/tilt mount. Works nicely and snugs up for travel with the straps.
