Are you using a TPMS system for your TT - A Poll

I've been snooping around for an aftermarket Tire Pressure Monitoring System for the new trailer and wondering what the opinions of the differrent brands and types are on this forum. I currently have 2 PU's with the factory systems which I like, but no experience with the aftermarket stuff.

Re: Are you using a TPMS system for your TT - A Poll

I've thought about the aftermarket tire monitor. I always want to check the tires before we take off, but that is sometimes very inconvienient. I have also thought of the filling with nitrogen. I am a member of an organization that has a large cargo trailer and in December, we had the tires of that trailer nitrogenized (how about that for a word?) and so far the results have been very positive.

My towing vehicle also has the tire pressure sensors and I have really appreciated that option.

Yes I bought a after market TPMS after a bad experiance with tire failures. I would not tow a rv 5th wheel or TT without one. I bought one from EEZ RV for a lot less money than what TST sells one for.

Yes we have them. on the four tires on the trailer and the dualies on the truck. Going to get a set for the front soon. It is a cheap insurance policy for your rig. it is great, for us anyway, to be able to moniter the pressure and temperature of the tires. However I still go around when ever we stop checking the tires for heat, pressure and pointy things that may have worked its way into the tread.

I don't have much faith in an aftermarket one.

It was a recalled item in my Mazda 6, replaced by the local dealer, and worked correctly for 2 days.

While it did work correctly on our TV recently, I am in the same situation as Cooper.

I just got a flat on my new Denali, TPMS would have been nice. I was lucky and didn't damage my tire. As for options, I saw somewhere else someone mentioned internal monitors. Sounds good, less chance they will be damaged, but how do you change the batteries? Now, if you buy 4 for the trailer, and decide later to add the truck, do you have to change the monitor? An last question to you grump010, how many screens do you have on your dashboard already? I know mine is starting to look like a sportsbar.

I have them on my Komfort 3650 and they paid for themselves this weekend as the alarm went off indication low tire pressure. I pulled over and the tire had a cut on the inner sidewall and was leaking down. I am thankful I had TPMS on the fifth wheel as it could have been worse with damage to the trailer had the tire come apart.

Just an update:
I went with the Hawkshead TPMS system. I've been away twice since the install and the tire temps are very accurate, haven't needed the low pressure part yet thank goodness. I really wanted something for the trailer as both of my trucks have the factory setup and they work flawlessly, saved my bacon a few times.
I will keep the forum posted as to how this thing works and battery life etc. If anyone has experience with any other brand please post your thoughts

Cheers

Which model did you get? How many tires does it cover? Is it expandable? Did you switch to metal valve stems? Does it have replaceable batteries? Where/how did you place the monitor? How big is the monitor?
Thanks
John

I purchased the following TPMS:
HawksHead Pressure Track HD
It also came with a repeater for longer TV / TT combinations that I didn't have to use.
I didn't replace the valve stems but will when I replace the tires on my trailer. For now, I will inspect the stems regularly and replace if required.
Yes it will do a boat load of tires, 22 if my memory serves me correctly.
Yes the batteries are replaceable an the sensor come with extra "O" rings for the seal.
The monitor comes with a windshield mount and it is quite small, fits in the palm of my hand easily.

Cheers

I have used the TST system (Truck System Technologies) for about 3 years now after we had 2 tires go on our old Trailer which was only 25FT long....A Truck coming by advised us, we didn't hear or feel anything, Now that we have a 43Ft trailer Toy Hauler with a long bed Truck, It works, we had a slow leak in one of our trailer tires, and it advised us before it went flat... We check our tires before every move, but when your driving with over 20K behind you, Why not have something to advise you, The cost is not that much, and when they go on sale, GET IT

Another vote for TST. Have sensors on all 6 TV and 4 trailer tires.

Had a valve stem go on TV front tire, TST immediately started screaming. Stopped and changed the tire before we had an issue. The other day, I was hauling leaves to the dump with the pickup, took a turn, and something didn't feel quite right. I don't normally leave the TPMS on when not towing, but it's in the truck console. Turned it on, one of the rear dual tires was at 23 pounds. It started alerting. I may just leave it on all the time.

I periodically scan the read outs when towing to watch pressure and temps.

Having had three tire failures on past TT, two of which did significant damage, I won't tow without a TPMS.
