Talking 3970 Electrical Upgrades

Hi all, not sure if this belongs here or in the Mods area, but figured I would share the details/pics of my inverter/charger and battery install:

4-6 volt AGM batteries for a total of around 850AH@12 volts
1-Magnum Energy (ME) MSH3012 hybrid inverter, charger, load support
1-ME BMK battery monitor
1-ME Remote panel
1-ME generator auto start
1-New AC sub panel mounted in the basement for circuits relocated to be fed from the inverter.

I left the existing charger/DC supply wired in parallel with the new ME in the event of a failure, all i have to do is flip a breaker (and turn the ME off).

The next post will be pictures. I can provide all of the intermediate steps in writing if it would benefit anyone thinking of doing something similar. Unfortunately, I did not take any intermediate steps.

You're gonna love this setup. I have same remote and BMK and AGS, but different batteries and inverter. But I leave mine on 24/7. We dry camp at NASCAR tracks and the only time I turn on the genny is for AC. Inverter handle the rest.

What do you find your "idle" DC amp draw to be?

I'll have to try to remember to look this weekend. We head out for a camping weekend tonight after work.

Nice, only thing missing are solar panels to top them off during the day when you are not using them. I have an RC trailer that I take to the flying field that has my planes in it, along with a 1500 watt inverter, a deep cycle AGM, 18Watt panel and charging minder to prevent overcharging. When it sits at home the battery stays topped off, and when I go flying I have 120 volt power to run my battery chargers, and any power tools I may need like soldering iron, covering iron, or dremel, and the SP will recharge the battery when I'm done. The panel is mounted to the roof, and has hardened glass so it can hold up to hail, at least it has so far .

370 watts of solar on the roof. Runs everything except AC all day at the track as well as keeping batteries charged. Love it!

What route did you use for the solar power cables to the roof?

Is that the total number including anything from solar, or just what was being pulled from the batteries? That is a lot lower than my steady state draw....I may have to start leaving stuff unplugged when boondocking.

I leave my inverter on all the time during summer season. Making ice in ice maker while on way to background. Mind you, we're plugged into 50A currently
