Vacation Time

Heading to the St. Louis area next week for vacation. Going to see GNR and do some of the normal tourist stuff. I plan on doing some fishing and was wondering if anyone wanted to share their best homemade catfish bait recipes?

Go....

Best catfish I ever tasted is caught, cooked, and served by someone else.
Haven't a clue what bait they use.

The real reason I replied to the thread is cuz of the title!
I'm off on an impromptu cross country camp-n-ride myself.
Had to escape the Texas Heat!

Good luck on the fishing.

Hope you are having a good trip.

I cannot guarantee I will catch any fish but I can guarantee the beverages will be cold.

Just spent 6 days in Branson at the KOA. It was a rendezvous spot for a few family members who RV and are all going separate ways as we leave.

My sister fished nearly every day at various spots. Not much luck, but she enjoyed every moment!

I left Branson this morning and I'm now just outside of Sioux City. So I've completed my Mizzou time this summer.

Think I'm heading across South Dakota and Montana, and then attack the Rockies coming down this time. (usually come in from the south, from Texas)

By the way, I'm kind of a traitor because I stopped in Laurie Missouri and grabbed a little miniature toy hauler for what I thought was a downright steal! I'm having a ball in this little thing.

Before anybody votes to lynch me, I STILL live in my beloved Aerolite. I'm a hopeless Dutchmen, I promise!

Sorry for hijacking your fishing thread. But again, you picked the most inviting title. Go catch something and hijack it back?

Vacation Time indeed. I love RVing.

I'm departing Laramie, WY in the morning, heading to the KOA in Cody for the weekend (Fri-Mon)... moving to Big Timber KOA in Montana on Tuesday... then up to a private RV park in Polson, MT for 2 weeks beginning Saturday the 29th.

If you're gonna be around any of those areas while I'm there, feel free to stop by and say "Hello".

Cody Wyoming 54 degrees at 7:16 this morning
Polson, 60
Big Timber, 64

They all sound like heaven!
(I'm running from heat, can ya tell?)

If I do indeed stumble across your trail, I'd be honored.
Thanks

Snake, that's a great looking little one, I would like to get one like it, when I can't drive my small 43ft toy hauler, who makes it?

Sorry for the delayed response. Been crossing the northern states. The cowboy ones. Big sky and all.

I ran across it when investigating "tiny toy hauler".
Didn't know if there was such a thing. (mass produced)

It's a Forest River product. The Coyote brand. Called a "Wolf Pup 17RP". For some reason a small RV outfit in Lauri Missouri is selling them way cheaper than anyone else. And they inventory them in decent numbers. This is the "Limited", which is just code for having all the option packages included. Loaded, for what it is.

A downright bargain in my opinion. I've been yanking it around for a few days and am having a hoot of a time.
Very light, yet 2500lbs of cargo capacity. Seems silly since it's too small to carry more than a couple of my bikes at a time.
(The KTM is about 240lbs. The big Yamaha ADVenture bike is about 600)

Life is grand, ain't it?
Hope everyone is enjoying Vacation Time.

Thanks Nevada.

ATCguy, it looks like we'll be missing each other by a cats whisper. If things go as planned, we're rolling into Big Timber tomorrow. Then onwards west Monday morning.

I personally avoid planning beyond the next hour or two. Sucks the "adventure" right outta me. Planning=scheduling. Schedule= you're late or you're early.
Alas, I'm enjoying this trip with my brother & sister in their new Retro 189R. (something like that) She's a sweetheart, but has to know what's coming. Stresses about no reservations.

Me? If they don't have a spot for me in a teardrop or this little 17'er, I move on. Besides, I've got generators in the back of the truck. Let's boondock in a pinch!

Anyways, maybe there'll be a glitch in the plans? I'd love to meet ya and talk Dutchman.

Hey, no problem. The planning & reservations thing is one of the few parts I dislike about my full time RV lifestyle... but with a big ole rig like mine, you gotta do it or you won't have a place to stay.

I spent the day traveling the Chief Joseph Highway, The Beartooth Highway, and then doubled back west and into the eastern part of Yellowstone Nat'l Park. Beautiful day, mild temps, sunny skies.

Big Timber is nice.. I stayed there last year for a couple weeks. It's a shame you don't have more time to explore the area. It's where Robert Redford picked for the movie "The Horse Whisperer with Kristen Scott Thomas, and a young Scarlett Johansson. Beautiful scenery all around, and the motel they stayed at in the movie is really right there in town.

Safe journeys, and have fun!

You're at my favorite place to ride. I love Cody, Chief Joseph, Beartooth Pass and Red Lodge MT. My favorite photo is where I built a snowman sitting on my Harley at the top of the pass in August. 1st time in 20 years I won't be going to Sturgis and Red Lodge. Kinda bummed.

Well, your comments spurred me to point out to my compadres that we could\should slow down. In fact, I pointed out that we left tropical coastal Texas to escape the heat, and in fact we were sipping fresh espresso at that very moment in 65 degree bliss!

They couldn't quite bite on just sittin. So they headed out as "scout" to find a spot in the Cody area. I suspect it's pretty full since the KOA you're currently at has nothing available even on a Sunday night!

Me? I concluded, thanks to your words, I'm already in a sweet spot to savor for another day. (Buffalo Wyoming) Relaxed under the cottonwoods.

Maybe tomorrow will beckon the nomad in me.

Yikes, I bet that smells good. I've always had good luck catching channel cats with just a live 6" bluegill, caught some nice ones down here in Dale Hollow lake. We just heaved one with a big sinker off the back of the house boat before bed. Many nights we would be up at 2-3am hauling one in.

I've been missing all the good stuff in this thread, roasting our butts off down here, 60's sound awfully nice.

Hmmm, fishing returns front & center. (rightfully so)

Well, I just set up camp (boondocking) on the banks of the Buffalo Bill Reservoir outside of Cody Wyoming.

Unbelievably beautiful spot. $17 per day.

Might drop a pole just to say I did.

Damn, I'm just seeing this (8:40pm). If I'd seen it earlier, I'd have suggested meeting up in town for dinner.

I probably passed right by you as you were arriving/setting up. I was in Yellowstone earlier today, and passed right by there on my way back to the KOA.

Leaving Cody tomorrow, on my way to Big Timber for 4 days before heading north to Polson (Glacier Nat'l Park).

Aw man!! Thought you already moved to Big Timber!

Rats!!!

I should've come to Cody earlier. Had no idea how awesome this area is. Watching the sunset now. Absolutely breathtaking. Pictures just can't capture it.
