Isaac

Looks like the storm is going to pass closer to us as originally thought.

They predict Isaac will continue to move northwest over the next day or so before turning slightly to the north before approaching the Louisiana/Mississippi coastline on Tuesday afternoon and evening.

We are prepared for this storm.
Generator has been tested and is on standby.
50 gal. of fresh gasoline stored in 5 gal. cans in the shop.
Phone and Internet are fiber optic with a back-up battery(which can be re-charged by gen. or car charger).
Radio, flashlights, extra batteries, drinking water, non-perishable food, along with 20 MREs are in house.
2(20 Lb.) & 2(30 Lbs) propane tanks are filled and gas buners are ready.

8 bottles of White Zinfandel is are also in place.

Re: Isaac

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. We'll need them.

As for now, we're just a few miles west of where the eye is predicted to pass. The west side is less dangerous. If the storm moves more to the west before land fall, we'll be on the east side, which is NOT GOOD.

I completed making up a power cord for the generator and then picked up loose items and put what I could in the shop. The 5er is snug under the RV cover. I'll try to post pics if anything interesting happens.

Re: Isaac

At the moment, we have winds of 40 mph with gust up to 65. It's been this way since midnight.

Folks in communities just south of New Orleans have up to 9' of water in there homes. This is because a State(not Federal) Levee system has failed. The Corp of Engineers will not comment on this. Some people have called authorities from within their attics.

I'm surprised we still have power.

Re: Isaac

At 7:05AM we lost power and one tree. We're now running on Generator power. Our Bradford Pear tree, near the house split in half and fell on my enclosed trailer; and patio cover. I hitched my tractor to the trailer and pulled it out onto the driveway. I'll have to wait for a break in the storm to cut the part of the tree that is on the patio cover.

Re: Isaac

I'm happy to say, we made it through this one very well. We have power, but homes in a square mile area next to us do not. I drove to a friends house to asses damage and saw power lines down from fallen trees.

At dawn, I started my chainsaw and cut the tree that had fallen onto my 6'X12" enclosed trailer and my patio cover. The damage was minimal to both.

The area of evacuation below is 50 miles to the East of us.
Tangipahoa(Tangip-a-hoa) Parish(County) is calling for a mandatory evacuation of all areas along the Tangipahoa River after officials were notified a dam in southern Mississippi is close to failing.
Officials said Mississippi Emergency Management notified GOHSEP and Tangipahoa Parish Government about the concern at Lake Tangipahoa at Percy Quinn State Park.
Pike County Civil Defense said the dam is still holding but there is concern it could give way.
Tangipahoa Parish President Gordon Burgess then issued the mandatory evacuation order. About 60,000 people live in the evacuation area.

If the dam does fail, the crest forecast would rise to 21.5 feet. That woud break the record crest of 18.7 feet.
The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for southwestern Pike County in southern Mississippi after the emergency management officials determined the dam would probably fail.
Forecasters expect severe flooding downstream along the Tangipahoa River from west of the McComb Airport and Magnolia to Osyka.
The water level is expected to rise nearly eight feet below the dam to six feet at Osyka. The river stage at Osyka is currently 14.8 feet.

The weather service said this is a flash flood emergency for all low-lying areas along the Tangipahoa River, including Osyka.
