Chesapeake Bay Bridge–Tunnel

Has anyone towed theirTT across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge–Tunnel? How was it? What is the cost? Anything to watch out for like propane limits?

Towed across it many times. Was born & raised in the Norfolk area, and grew up 10 miles from the thing.

No issues except for high wind days, and they close it to all high-profile vehicles if it gets too bad (40mph+).

Well, that kinda depends on your perspective. If you’re on the east coast of VA or NC... without it, you’d have to route your trip northwest up I-64 to Richmond, then I-95 north thru the hell that is the DC beltway area to get anywhere on the DelMarVa peninsular. If continuing northeast into NJ, you’d have to continue up I-95 thru Baltimore and pay the toll for the tunnel there.

So all in all... considering the fuel savings, the headaches of DC metro area traffic, and not to mention the time savings... paying the toll is a bargain.

We are planning a trip up to Yankee country this spring. As many times I have made the trip by car, I never considered this. This time taking the Trailer. Being that there appears to be a tunnel part to this. Do they allow propane tanks? A lot of tunnels do not.

Thanks
