Winegard Trav'ler Satelite Dish Sensitivity...

Well, I've now have first-hand knowledge just how sensitive the Trav'ler is to obstructions...

I arrived at my current RV park last week... setup & unpack were uneventful, including deployment of the antenna. First couple of days, I watched tv just fine. Then on Thursday, I tried watching a ballgame, and it keep pixelating out... but other channels were just fine.

Friday evening, tried watching another game... same result, except now more channels were doing the same thing. So I called DirecTV tech support. They walked me thru a few steps... and after no joy, they scheduled a service call.

By Monday, I could only get 20-25 channels out of 300 or so. And then I figured it out...

When I got here last week, the trees were just beginning to bud, and the branches were pretty bare. 8 days later, and they're in full bloom... full of leaves.

And though I'm in a wooded site... I don't have a canopy, but I do have a big tree in a direct line of sight to the 3 satellites. What are the odds? And where I used to be able to see blue skies thru the branches... now it's a full blanket of green leaves.

Well, the tech arrived today and confirmed the problem with his electronic sight. And repositioning the rig won't help. I'd have to move too far to get clear... and I can't move to a different site either, as all if the spaces can can accommodate me are already taken.

Don't get me wrong, it's not the end if the world... and I'll be moving down the road in a week or so anyway. Just posting to say that it's a little more sensitive to trees than I thought it would be.

Time to get out the one you got in Laughlin Nevada. The one with a square stand on the bottom.

If TV is a must, then take some dvd's or bluray's, we keep a few in the trailer.

Yeah, well... I kept the dish, but ditched the square. Was just too big to keep & store. So, even though it won't help me while I'm here, I've began shopping for a tripod.
