We just did it... the ultimate Mod

Just traded our 2015 Coleman CM16FBS for a Coachmen Concord 300DS.

Stay tuned, picking it up on Wednesday if the PDI goes well. I have done a pretty thorough walk through on it before we made the decision. They have also been put on notice about the PDI.

I don't plan on abandoning the forum here. Too many good people.

Aaron

Our current travel style. My wife and I both travel extensively for a living. I work as a Construction Risk Specialist for a national industrial roofing contractor and she is a Sr Flight Attendant. We get home after a week plus on the road and want to go somewhere for the weekend. It may be a campground where we can veg out or it may be to do some volunteer work, or sight seeing. We think the ability to hop in and go and stop where we please and be fully self contained is going to work better than taking a camper somewhere, dropping it off and coming back later. Plus our dog travels with us on the weekends and cannot really be left alone.

It all started with a buddy getting a good deal on a used Born Free 32 on a Kodiak chassis. We wanted something a bit smaller and were looking at used Dynamax Isata's but they are few and far between. The Coachmen seemed like a decent compromise.

Wow, that's a sweet looking rig, except for the blue oval.

Already got the list going. One thing for sure the mods are going to be costing a bit more than the ones on my Coleman.

I always figure about 10% of purchase price for mods, just as a matter of course. So buy a $10,000 trailer and spend $1,000. Buy a $70,000 one and spend $7,000. Tell the men from the boys by the price of their toys.

Funny thing about that... They actually make that model on either a Chevy or a Ford chassis. However with the Chevy you cannot get front seats that will swivel around to face the interior. That was one of the items on our list. I have been a Ford guy for many, many years so I am happy with my choice.

Forest River doesn't offer the diesel as an option so it has the 6.8L V-10. I suspect for our driving style it will do just fine. While we were shopping motorhomes we did run across an old Born Free that had the 7.3L PSD... that was a hard one to leave. But it was going to need too much in terms of interior upgrades to make it viable for us.

Makes perfect sense, as the Ford would break down more you would want the option to spin your chairs around and go make a sammich as you're waiting for the tow truck.

I won't bore you with my stories of time spent sitting on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck. Most of them were Chevys. One had to have $1800 worth of front end work done...at 65,000 miles.

Got the moho picked up today, couple of minor issues they had to deal with so we got a late start for home. Spending the night in a Wal-Mart parking lot. Be home by lunch time tomorrow and start sorting things out. It does not have the interior storage space the Coleman had! But there are a lot of other advantages to make up for that.
