I actually find it surprising we don't see MORE of this than we do.

As you know, while crisscrossing the country, it is actually common to see mismatched Tow Vehicle\Travel Trailer.

And while there ARE campers out there that can be towed by similar SUV's to the one in that video, I think that was clearly proof that I'm talking about less trailer than that one.

So, the best response of this starts to happen?

(following is what I've gleaned from reading many articles...I'm actually asking if this is a correct course of action)

Foot off the pedals (don't use tow vehicle brakes), activate trailer brake to slow down. Pull over and redistribute weight to front of trailer?

That would be my plan, if I kept my wits about me! I'd know to stay off of the truck brakes, and hope I'd remember the trailer brakes. But at the same time I'd be having intestinal problems, and uttering some combination of prayers and worse!

Ah, I forgot the "don't panic" step!

At least I know from other emergency situations that my first response is to take my foot off the pedals! [emoji23]

This is why you should always keep spare underwear in the truck. I'm glad nobody was hurt. Still I'd be worried about the propane tanks.

Yup, pulling too much camper for the vehicle and over correcting like mad.

Keep those brake controllers where you can grab them. That was very avoidable.

Another step... if the trailer starts to sway something needs fixing. I have seen people swaying down the road for miles on end, they slow down for a bit then speed up again. That isn't fixing ANYTHING.

Never saw any brake lights in that video, makes me wonder if they were even hooked up?

Was behind a guy on the freeway who had a trailer that was fishtailing a little everytime he got close to 65. I backed off a bit, just in case, hit my hazards to let others coming up know to be careful, and sure enough, withing a minute, he got way out of control. Truck and trailer were all over the place, into about 1/2 of the left and right lanes next to him, we all slowed, and watched it play out.. He was able to get it under control by easing off the gas, I did not see brake lights light up, thankfully. He saved it. Then got in the right lane and took his speed to 50mph.
As I drove past, what I saw was a trailer about 26' or so, being towed by a 1/2 ton GMC Yukon. Rear of the GMC was bottomed out, trailer not even close to level, and no load Levelers (not that his TV was correct for this application anyhow). Front was pointed up pretty high, making for a sever steering control issue I imagine.
Not sure how he thought his setup after loading was even close to being safe, but it takes all kinds I guess.
Hopefully, he took the next exit to get a new TV with better load ratings, but I doubt it.

Gear.

Just saw an early 2000's Lincoln town car pulling a 20' plus Ameri-Lite, i'm glad he was on the other side of the highway. Dopes.
