So, Where Are You Going in 2019?
Well, I figure since it's just about the end of February... and it seems just about the entire country has experienced absolutely horrible weather this year... I figured I'd ask my annual question:
What RV excursions do you have planned for the coming year?
As I'm on 5th year of full timing, I'll admit that I've slowed my roll just a little bit. While I'm still racking up the miles, most of my movement with the rig will occur in a period of just over 2 months.
After enduring what up until this point has been a cool & dreary time in Arizona this winter... I'm pretty much gonna do a carbon copy of what I did last year. I'll depart here in April and begin working my way back up to Wyoming over a 5-week period to spend the entire summer in the Yellowstone area again. Itinerary as follows:
* Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon Nat'l Recreation Area for a week
* St. George, UT for a visit (if it's open) at Zion Nat'l Park for a few days
* Beatty, NV for a week to ride & explore Death Valley
* Reno & Lake Tahoe for a week
* Wendover, NV for a day or 2 to see if the Bonneville Salt Flats are still there
* Vernal, UT for a week to ride & revisit Dinosaur Nat'l Monument and the surrounding area (beautiful scenery and seriously under-visited)
* and finally up to Cody, WY the first week of May... which I'll use as my 'summer home' until sometime in mid-September. Last summer was a blast up there, and I can't wait to get beck up there again. Since there's so much to see & experience... to be able to explore Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons, and the Beartooth Mountain areas at one's leisure was awesome.
After that, no real plans as yet except to use about 6 weeks in late September and the month of October to wander back down here in Arizona for the winter again... and hope next winter is kinder & gentler to us all than this one has been.
So... how about you? Where you going???

Salt Flats were still there a few years ago. I saw them at 155 MPH. Had to slow down got too bumpy for me....
On the travel side. We are going to visit relatives in Texas and Pennsylvania. So have to plan some nice excursions on the way from SC.
Have Fun!

Going local next weekend if our favorite campground isn't under water, setting rainfall records with lots of bad flooding.

Looks like our favorite park in San Diego won't be closing for a while so we'll try to get out there a couple of times. We'll take the RZR to Utah to play. Hopefully get in a bunch of short trips with either the Harley or the RZR. I've been setting up RV shows and the part-time job quickly became 10 hour days but that pays for the trips.

Crazy?
As a working tax paying citizen...
We are currently camped out at the NC State Fairgrounds for the big RV show. My bride decided to get a booth to sell her Pink Zebra stuff. So we technically get into the RV show free.
Have a trip planned up to 4 Paws Kingdom probably in May for a short week. Then possibly a week long trip to Owego, NY to see friends.
After that it will be a crap shoot to see where we can get to one weekend a month if we are lucky and the weather holds up.

We plan to visit some of the National Parks/Monuments between Arizona and Washington State that we haven't been to yet.
Great Basin NV
Mt St Helens WA
Mt Rainier WA
North Cascades WA
Craters of the Moon ID
We'll probably revisit Zion and and my personal favorite - Bryce Canyon also.

Unless you just wanna check it off your list, have a thing for lava fields, or your otherwise intended route takes you nearby... I wouldn’t bother making Craters of the Moon a high priority...
To say I was highly disappointed by the place is an understatement. While the story of the early pioneers coming upon this place is interesting... the parts of the park you can see are very small because it has only a single road passing thru it, and not very many reasons to stop and take photos along it. To see anything else in the park, you’ve gotta hoof it... and, as you can imagine, the terrain isn’t that easy to traverse. There’s a reason the wagon trains had to find a way to bypass it.
All in all, I was in and out of the park in less than 45 minutes. I took lots of photos, trying to capture a bit of it... and I think I maybe kept 3, because they all basically looked the same.
Yes it’s fascinating... yes it has interesting topography... and yes, it must’ve been a frightening sight when those first wagon trains who were trying to avoid Indian ambush came upon it. But I don’t know if I can say it was worth the time, fuel, and cost I spent to route myself up that way to visit. Of course, based on your preferences... your mileage may vary.

1. It's on the way home so why not visit?
2. We have family nearby that we plan to visit with.
3. I still want to add it to my collection of Park/Monument patches.
OK, we probably won't spend that much time there.
Thanks for the heads-up though.

2019 Camping
We’re newbies to the TT part of camping, and realizing it’s very different from tent camping. Our trips the first half of the year are all practice runs for a summer tour, so we have lots of 2019 camping on the agenda.
So far we have done trips close to home (pix below)
Santee lakes
Mission Bay RV
March 29th we’ll hit our favorite secret desert campground
May - Memorial Day weekend in Malibu
July - August touring the other coasts from the gulf, up through the outer banks to New England as beach bums and with tourist stops in New Orleans, Orlando, Washington DC, Manhattan and Niagara Falls.

Makes sense...
One thing I did find neat out there (at least for geeks like me)... east of the park on US-20/26, was this lone building way, way off in the distance by itself. Turned out to be EBR-1... the world's first nuclear power plant. It was up & running the town of Arco for over a week before they made it public.
If you're into that sorta thing, it's worth a visit.

March, 10 days going to BEquinox which is the Los Angeles Burning Man event. April/May, Grand Canyon which will include a 23 day trip through the Canyon in my raft. Finally, 15 day trip to northern Nevada to participate at Burning Man for 10 days. I may not work but I do pay taxes.
