Replace carpet

Have a 2014 V3005 and am tired of the carpet in the bedroom and would like to replace with laminate. Also would like to overlay flooring in the living room with laminate. Wondering this would affect slide outs. Has anyone tried this?

As long as the laminate is below the height of the carpet you should be okay. I would also check under the slides for rollers and such that could mar the laminate. My unit has full vinyl with carpets that are edge bound that can be pulled out. Love that concept. We left the carpet in the bedroom and cab area, pulled the main one and put it in storage. Me and the dog are hell on carpet.

I am planning on pulling up the bedroom carpet and putting down some 12 VDC heated flooring, then laminate. Make for nice walking around in the winter.

I asked about getting sheet goods on all the floors and got a no. I was given the lame excuse that if it had a slide they had to have carpet over the gap. Sounded more like it's too much trouble to special order excuse.

The only thing that makes me think is, oh ya I'll show you it can be done. One way or another I am going to do the floor with vinyl planks, just not sure which one.

I know the stuff Home Depot sells with the peel and stick adhesive strips holds up well. I used it in my garage going on about 7 years. None of the oil or solvent spills have caused any failures.

Then there's the same product with a click joint. I'm not sure the click joints will stand up to the off roading.

As if picking one or the other isn't hard enough, I came aross another click joint product should have some insulating properties. It's thicker than the Home Depot stuff and the joint is different. It looks like it might hold better, but is it too thick so it would interfere with the slide.

Next time I'm in town, I'll get the name of the product manufacturer.

I'm pretty sure that I'll go with this one if the slide isn't impacted. If I remember correctly my old school slide has a bit of adjustabiliy to level the floor.

Jim appreciate information. Really like the idea of 10mm laminate. I know it holds up well to normal use. Water is really the only enemy It might be easier for the rollers to glide over laminate. As far as click joints I wonder if it might work better if the laminate is laid perpendicular to the slide Bill

It never entered my mind to lay it crossways, I've been mulling over glueing down the first row at the slide and then use the click joint working away from the slide and do the same thing with the slide.

That's what I love about this forum, it's like brainstorming on the grand scale.

Yep gluing down perhaps two or three first courses could be a very good way to stop any movement with slide. Going camping this afternoon but will start looking at this on my return

Jim also on a table saw I would rip a shallow angle on leading of laminate where rollers make initial contact.

I had the same idea, just a different approach. I was thinking that one of the multitude of profiles available in plastic mouldings would give it a nice finished look.

The big hangup that I see is how good of a seal to the weather does the slide make when it's opened. I just haven't gotten that far yet, I'm still catching up on two years of projects that stacked up while I was dealing with a flare up of psoriatic arthritis. I'm just about through the first years worth of projects, so I can see a flicker of light at the end of tunnel.

Jim understand just updated house with new paint light fixtures 1000 square feet of wood floors new base board all myself. Floors were such an improvement would like to do rv. When I feel like it

It's back to plan A, the 10mm that I was considering has been discontinued. The product that they have now looks like a 3-4mm vinyl plank glued to a hollow grid of about 3/4" voids.
It's probably a good thing, because I don't think the slide is adjustable enough to clear the 10mm flooring.

I think that the weather seal is the main issue. The carpet over carpet at the edge of the slide is most likely there to prevent cold air infiltration. It's almost impossible to have an air tight seal under the slide floor.

The carpet flap is really more decorative than functional. It's main purpose in life is hide the joint, then all they need is installers, not craftsmen.
