Onan/Cummins Generator Won't Start

Went out today to load up my 2013 Voltage today for a coming up camping trip and tried to start the generator and it just cranks over but won't start.
Checked it out and its not getting fuel to the carb. It has a low pressure fuel pump that runs when prime/start switch. My fuel pump does not run at all. It is getting 12volts to the pump motor and ground is good and nothing. Took it out(the fuel pump) and put 12 volts and ground on the bench and still nothing. Time for a new pump. Anybody else have this problem? It was OK just last month.

onan fuel pump - Quick Gift 4 U - McJiffy Easy

Looking at the picture of the pump at that URL it looks like to me almost any 12volt pump will work if it's in the correct pressure range. If you knew the fuel pressure you could probably get one from some place like AutoZone and not pay the Cummins sticker price.

Thanks for the website. It is still under warranty, so I will get the OEM one from Onan. It is mounted under the generator where the fuel line from the back tank attaches to the generator. And then there is a short hose to the carb. It is pretty tight in there.

My 2011 TH with the 5500 Onan had a bad carb and it happens often since any fuel residual makes the carb worthless. If yours is the pump that should be cheaper, good luck.

I just found the exact same problem with my 2013 3895. Still under warranty so the guy is coming to fix it monday, once he gets that fixed he can troubleshoot why its not providing electrical power to the coach

I had the same issue with mine. I was able to deal directly with a cummins/onan dealer. I pulled the pump, took them all of the vin info and they just gave me a new pump…It was really easy to replace.

Do not use fuel with ethanol, it is okay for a vehicle used often, not okay in lawn mowers, small engines and generators etc. Just search for ethanol free fuel via google......No more problems since the switch.

I exercised my generator the other day. Ran it for an hour or so with a light load without problems.

Funny, lucky, strange thing is, I'm still burning the gas the dealer put in the tanks in Denver, February 2013! It just seems to be a lot of trouble to fill the truck with diesel, 120 gallons, and then have to jockey the rig around to pump 30 gallons of gasoline. One day it'll have to happen before I cause myself unnecessary problems.
