Unhappy N. Carolina Routing assistance please

In early July I will be driving my rig from Shenandoah NP in Virginia on my way to Jacksonville, Florida. The Good Sam trip planner has me going through Charlotte NC on Interstate 77. We're just driving through without stopping here (sorry, Charlotte). Should I stay on I77 through Charlotte or take the I485 bypass? Is Charlotte traffic worth avoiding?

I would just stay on I77. South bound Charlotte Traffic is not as bad as north bound. Especially during rush hour.

I'm not so sure about that. There is major construction before Charlotte on 77 south and also I-85 south. The question is why is your directions app having you go over and down I-77? Is it far for you to go to I-95? That route save almost an hour from going to I-77. Is there some kind of big construction on 95 south?

Pecan Park. Has good reviews except for the airplanes flying right over. I grew up 5 miles from one of the major runways of O' Hare airport so it will feel like old times.

Well, I will be departing from Wyethville, VA that morning on my way to Lexington, NC for a few nights (staying at Barnyard RV Park) to visit Congaree NP. I-95 would be a considerable drive out of my way.

Oh, yes it would be a considerable trip. Didn't know you were coming from Wyethville. BTW, it is Lexington SC you are going to, not NC.
Have a great trip!

I-77 if you can avoid rush hour. It gets a bit ugly down around Davidson, but then clears up. We have an office in Wytheville, and I run that stretch of road right regular. I prefer I-26 over i-77 but that is a bit further to the west.

Thanks everybody. I just wanted to be sure that Charlotte wasn't like trying to drive through Seattle WA world class type traffic jams. Am a bit concerned about the construction someone mentioned but we're never going to get away from that wherever we go.

I can promise you Charlotte is nothing like Seattle when it comes to traffic. Or the infamous mess in LA. Here on the right coast Atlanta is about worst I have seen outside of DC and NYC, but who wants to camp there?
