Dutchman Owner's Repair Clinic

Hold on, wait, don't get excited. It's only a crazy thought going through my mind while I sit in the sun and sip my coffee.

What if some of the more skilled of us got together and created a repair clinic for Dutchman owners? We have tools and talents so we could charge a few bucks for each clinic topic and participant. The charge could cover fuel, beer and Viagra.

We have the A/C repair guys here, the LED guys, the tires and wheels guys, the slides that don't slide guys. We have all kinds of talent here that knows what it takes to keep these things on the road.

We could find a nice little place near Dutchman headquarters and set up shop. Adveritse locally and on the forums. PSAs on TV and radio in the local area.

Maybe, just maybe, Dutchman would take notice and attempt to keep these problems with their units from ever leaving the factory. Maybe the embarassment would force them to implement a QC department that is actually manned with a sighted individual that is compensated on the faults this individual finds and gets corrected.

I know, like I said, I'm sitting in the Arizona sun drinking coffee but I forgot to mention the Tequila fixer in the coffee.

It's a novel idea. We in the motorcycle world do something similar occasionally, and we call 'em "Wrench Days".

The location is usually someone's house that has a nice garage setup and plenty of driveway space... and for 2 or 3 days, we just work on each other's bikes. Adding accessories (farkles, we call 'em), changing tires, oil, filters, bearings, etc.

Most everyone brings some level of expertise to the arena... one guy's good at working at changing tires, while someone else wires up & installs a GPS for him, etc. And as new people are added, there's always a couple of people who've never held a wrench or screwdriver in their life... which is fine. We show them how to remove panels, change common parts, etc.

Now... in re doing this in the RV world... well, right off of the top of my head, I could think of a few things it would need to succeed:

1) It would need to be planned far in advance, so people could make arrangements to attend without upsetting plans they have already made.

2) The event needs to be at a time where most people would have opportunity to go (holiday weekends, summertime, etc.)... and preferably either prior to or immediately following some other larger event that RV'ers would be interested in attending (RV show, sporting event, etc.)

3) Location, Location, Location: It the event is not great location with other things to see & do, all bets are off. While the guys are wrenching, the ladies are going to want something to do... as well as any kids someone may be bringing. And with all respect, I don't think holding it near Dutchman's plant is going to have any effect at all on how Dutchmen does things.

4) Finally... arrangements for having any specialty items installed and/or repaired should be coordinated between folks in advance. Parts need to be ordered in advance & had on hand, as well as the time element involved in performing the work. As such, holding the event near a location with a Camping World, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. in the vicinity would be a plus.

So, those are just some random thoughts I have on the subject.

WOW what an excellent idea.....perhaps it could be done in conjunction with a M&G!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (meet & greet).......

We did something very similar to this when we attended the Sunline Owners M&G in Mexico PA......it was a he success!

sundancer,

Although, you came up with a novel idea while baking in the sun and sipping on a coffee flavored Tequila or was that Tequila flavored coffee..........either way Tom (ATCGuy) wasn't.

He's started outlining what you've dreamed up. Guess it doesn't hurt that he's done something like this with the bikes.

Hopefully, you'll do that Sun/coffee/Tequila thing more often and get more of them creative juices flowin'.
