Drawer latch

I have one single solitary drawer in my TT. And the latch broke, AGAIN. It broke in year one ... under warranty ... but what a hassle to have fixed by the dealer. "Free" cost me a load of time and hassle. I foresee this to be an annual or every other year maintenance issue.

A) is it an easy DIY fix?
B) is there another mod/replacement that you've made that works better?

I miss my mom's 1990's era Class A drawers where you simply lifted up on the drawer to open it ... no mechanical latch to fail!

Is it like this one?

Is it breaking or is it pulling out of the pressed cardboard it's screwed into? I pulled all of my drawers out and added screws to all the latches and guides. There were a lot of places where only one screw was used when 2 slots/holes were provided.
Should be a relatively easy fix.

It's been a while since I looked. When it failed this time I didn't even look ... cussed and ignored it for the weekend, then took the drawer out and put it on the bed while towing...

But I do believe that's what I'm looking at. And the latch itself failed ...

I'm going to confirm that's the style I have and just buy the five pack!

I haven't had a latch fail, but I had several screws pull loose to where they wouldn't latch properly.

I'll double check before ordering. The drawer won't close all the way (hook won't press into the latch). And what's there right now was dealer installed, not factory installed ... (theoretically installed properly??)

I had the same problem with both my drawers on the camper we just bought, I replaced them with these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PVN1JMQ..._2tX9CbNPCHN5J

I've had several of those type of latches fail on my TT as well. Most of the time, the little tab on the square portion get's pushed in and you simply use a screw driver to pull the tab back out. When I do have to replace it because one or the other portion of the latches actually broke I replaced it with a magnetic latching type instead.

I like, I like ... seems like a better (and old classic) design.

I've been around here long enough to know that there has to be a better "wheel" than what was designed initially!

I've replaced a few of my broken plastic ones with these. The do require careful measurement to locate the screws so that the latches line up properly. I had the "wood" frame around one drawer split where the screw entered it. Care is needed when installing these but they work great once you get the proper alignment.

Replace the slides with self-closing, it is on my upgrade list.

Works PERFECTLY!

Thank you Pyro for the suggestion. And, yeah, Occupant ... it took longer to make certain of the alignment (and one set of wrong holes) to get it aligned than it did to actually screw the pieces in. But ... it won't break in one season like those plastic ones!

I replaced all latches in my Fiver with these. They are adjustable tension by the screws on the side. Haven't had a drawer slide out since.

Drawer

I have a 2007 35 ft Dutchmen Northshore that was delivered to me on a lot i own so i can use it for my week end ..
This travel trailer was never trailered on road , only from the dealer lot to my lot which is about 20 miles ..
After a year of only week end use , all the drawers were falling down , all the black guides plastic holders cracked and broke , and that trailer never had suffered from bouncing road travel , it is a permanent set up trailer since new , the construction of those drawers system is so cheap and not make to last , i would even say the whole trailer is of very poor construction , so disappointing !!

sounds like moisture is your enemy! Are you doing anything to prevent the humidity from soaking the interior?
