I have a CB radio in my truck. Its good if you are travelling with someone. Truckers still have them and I use it to get information from them on traffic situations on channel 19.

Not yet, but plan to. Could have used one running westbound into Albuquerque a few weeks ago. Wouldn't have changed the strong side winds, but I would have had more info from the truckers and how it affected them.

Riding buddy avoided the tornado that hit Moore, OK because he was listening to the truckers on CB while riding. Got off in Reno, OK at their advice and is very thankful for it.

Probably the next upgrade I do.

Haven't had one mounted in a truck in years, but I do have a nice handheld that I picked up in a pawnshop a few years ago. It is a Midland unit and works on car battery or an add on battery pack. It will accept an external antenna.

Another thing I use while traveling is the Waze App on my smartphone, it isn't perfect but it has given me enough notice on several occasions to be able to reroute around problem areas.

I have a CB but have only used it in the last few years when offroading with the quads. I do have HAM radio in the truck and you would be surprised how many truckers use HAM as well. One advantage is far greater range and without all the unrestricted mayhem (uh, chatter) that you have with CB. Also, depending on where you are, you can hit a repeater that either let's you make a phone call where there is no cell service, or at least hit someone with a base station that is willing make a call for you. Nice to have in an emergency.

I use a CB on my Goldwing quite a bit when riding with other friends who have CB's on their bikes... but very seldom otherwise. We don't play on Channel 19, but mainly use them to point out various things as we ride, tell jokes, or to rag each other about riding styles...

When not riding with them, or not on the bike at all... I don't use a CB very often. I do have a portable hand-held CB that I keep in the truck in case I ever need it in an emergency... but that's about it. Maybe if I were traveling with other RV'ers I'd hook it up & tune in... but that's about it.
