Burned thermostat

I have a 2012 Aspen trail. Recently my thermostat burned up. Just wondering if anyone has seen this before and what could have caused this to happen.
Attached if a pic of the thermostat i have.

Did it just stop working or actually have a small electronic mushroom cloud? If it's just not working I'd check fuses and connections first and give it a sniff to check for fried components.

A/C trouble shooting guide

The thermostat wasn't even turrned on at the time.
We came back from a friend's and nothing would air. All fuses and breakers are ok. The back of the display on the thermostat is burned up and this piece on the circuit board of th e thermostat.

That's just a crystal that could be replaced but if the board is burned it's, um, toast.
I would think any thermostat with the same amount of wires would work.

So do you think that It could have been a faulty thermostat? Or should I be looking deeper into it.

It's hard to say what caused the problem. A photo of the back of the board might give a hint as to what component failed. The crystal only vibrates or sets up a harmonic frequency for some part of the thermostat. What its purpose is beyond me in this case. It doesn't handle power switching or anything like that so it's probably still fine.

Give us a photo of the burned part of the board if you can.

The board isn't burned but you do have some loose or broken solder joints.
The smell may be coming from the increased resistance due to the solder joints. You'd see char on the board and burned components if it was a major failure.

All is not bad, solder those joints again and see if it works. Poor solder joints are not uncommon in the cheaply constructed "ESE" electronic products.

Don't look too close at the country of manufacturer for most of your trailer components...
