5th wheel cover, opinions?

Anyone have any opinions or experience on this 5th wheel cover?

ADCO 52254 28'1" - 31' Designer Series SFS Aqua Shed 5th Whee | RVCovers.com

We don't currently have a cover and would like to buy one. Alternative recommendations? Anything specific to look for when buying a cover?

Thanks!

BTW, probably going to pull the trigger on one today as I'm winterizing my trailer this weekend or next, and would like to wash and clean up everything, throw a cover on it before leaving it for the winter season.

I used a Adco cover before, not the one your talking about, the biggest thing I see is if you live in an area of high winds, don't matter how good its tied down, it will tear apart...If you get one, make sure the corners don't have anything pointe, like the drains, on the roof, the TV antenna, place something over it, so it won't tear a hole quicker, get one with vents, so you get some air, Good Luck

Thanks for the reply. I didn't end up buying one yesterday, but will be soon. Wanted to shop around some more.

You know... I've never had the reason to winterize mine, or to secure it for periods of non-use. But if I did, I think I'd look into having it wrapped like the marinas do with boats for the winter.

Am I way off base with even suggesting that?

My Adco cover lasted 4 years before it came apart. I use it to keep the hot AZ sun off it. It did its job but it did rub on places and did break off my drain spouts. I'm looking to get another one but they seem to be on backorder.

I would love to get one also. We live in Chicago and pretty much will use our unit in the winter only when we head south. Hence it sits unecessarily in the sun all summer unused. I checked ADCO's site. I can't seem to find one that will fit a 44' toy hauler. Custom made ones are cost prohibitive.

Rusty, ADCO is a little behind, the biggest one made for a toy Hauler is 40ft, They said that they will be making one to fit our sizes. I use a 40ft one, that I had from before, but the back end is not covered

Thanks. I'll stay tuned. Maybe they'll be ready come spring.

Covering an RV is an interesting topic. We used an ADCO cover on our travel trailer for a few months. I was not impressed with it for our area because the winter blizzards destroyed it. Now we just park our 5th wheel inside during the winter. Obviously that is not an option for everyone.
That said, if you are going to cover your RV of any type I would only use an RV cover. My uncle used a blue tarp to cover his 5th wheel and it trapped moisture under it and ruined his roof.
I have been warned against the shrink wrap that they put on boats for the same reasons. It doesn't breathe. Condensation builds up and things start to mold and rot inside and out.

Do these covers scratch the paint if the wind shakes them pretty bad. thanks GW.

I have been to a lot of RV storage facilities....from what I have seen, I would not have one on mine. I honestly don't think I have ever seen one fully intact. If covered, it needs to breath, so the material will need to be some what light/airy, thus easily compromising the integrity of the fabric as it moves around.

I have also watched a couple try to put one on once, but the gutter spouts ripped the material...

There are some good threads on RV.net about covers...I would be worried about damage from it whipping around and rubbing the trailer finish.

I think you would be fine if doing this in the dry desert, much like we preserve aircraft in the Boneyard, but doing it anywhere else would net you a very moldy trailer I would think. The plastic barrier is not very breathable. Ok in marina type of installations, those craft are meant to be wet.

The covers are suppose to allow the trailer to breath, I have read that some folks run dehumidifiers when covered or stored for the season...

I think we should get together and purchase and old WalMart store and open an indoor RV storage business. Keep it heated to 55 in the winter, no reason to winterize...

The cover we had on our TT did not harm the finish, and it was pretty easy to install. It just wasn't very durable. Inside storage is worth every penny. We're lucky and have an 80X100 steel building to park ours in.
