2014 3200 Voltage

I have had my Voltage for approx 1.5 years. When not in use I have to connect to shore power to charge battery approx every 4 days. After charging I turn battery isolator to the open position.I still have battery drain after 3 to 4 days. There is still some kind of load on battery, cannot figure it out.Can any body out there help me trouble shoot.

Thanks Labador

Labador,

Are you sure the battery is good to start with. Get the battery load tested to make sure it's good. That is a pretty fast discharge rate, you are using a cutoff switch so is it really cutting the battery power off.

That happens to me also... need to install a battery shut-off right at the battery! There are parasitic drains on most trailers... like mine has the carbon monoxide detector, and the stereo remote mounted on the outside of the trailer that NEVER shuts off... even when the battery disconnect switch is turned to the open position.

On the stereo remote, I was able to go inside the bottom of the pantry cabinet, split the power wire and installed a switch for it inside the outside refer compartment. Ours also has the Wifi Ranger that is a parasitic drain.

I would not think there should be any parasitic drain with the factory installed disconnect, but I believe you are all correct,I will install a disconnect at the battery along with a external voltage gauge.

Thank You ALL, for your help

donzinger, I saw somewhere on here that someone said all they had to do is hook-up the factory BLUE wire on the stereo remote that Dutchman forgot and the remote powers off... Going to look into that, otherwise its getting a switch!!!

I recall reading that as well, but was too lazy to fish the wires thru and just wanted a way to completely shut it off.

You would think that... but in reality has proven otherwise. And it isn't just Dutchmen. I was helping a buddy on his Forest River built unit and there were several things causing a draw. IIRC stereo, LP detector and some control board. Total draw was close to 2 amps. I have a dead simple trailer and the only thing that draws on mine when everything is off is the LP detector. My battery take a couple of weeks to get down to 50% when the trailer is left unplugged. Found out when the converter crapped out.

One way to check is to use a test light between the battery terminal and the connector. Turn the disconnect switch off, disconnect the battery, then put the test light between the battery terminal and the battery. If it lights up you have a draw.

I figured I'd never get them all, so instead of trying to hunt down and kill each leech, we went the other way - and just put in solar and more batteries, since we boondock mostly anyway.

Now, I just leave it on, and the batteries are always already topped off when we get ready to set off on a trip. It did cost to set it up, but sure makes things easier.

..and also generates enough surplus power to run battery tenders for the ATVs also, which we keep in the Voltage's 'garage'.

Agreed on the solar being the way to go. We run everything except AC units all day long to include an ice maker and more at the race tracks and still have enough juice to make morning coffee before the sun does it's thing again in the morning.

donzinger, I might be calling on you when I attempt the stereo switch/wire thing... What kind of races we talking about? NHRA, NASCAR? I was looking to taking the wife and my twin 6 yr old boys to Crandon in Wisconsin to see some trophy truck racing, but don't know if i'll fit...

NASCAR - we are regulars here at MIS, Darlington and Homestead/Miami. We have also been to Kentucky and Vegas. Plan is to hit all the others once I retire (again).
