2005 Dutchmen 18B Shower Leak

I have a shower leak at the back of the shower were the water intake line connects to the shower. The leak is the water line connection that connects to the shower valve. The leak is in the male connection protuding from the water line. How do I replace the male end of this connection? It has a compression ring and I do not know how to replace it and re-install a new male connection.

it's called pex... Here's the wiki explanation. it takes a PEX tool or you can use one of the new push on connectors. lowes has them and the crimp tools. I bought one the other day for eleven dollars but usually they are quite expensive (50-60). You can explore the world of PEX by roaming around your local lowes or home depot.

My buddy had the same problem with a kitchen sink.
He bought the tools and parts at Lowes.

Unfortunately he could never get a good connection!
Not sure if it was operator trouble or a bad tool.
He went the old school route and used a HOSE clamp.
Problem solved.

Good luck

Shower Leak

I appreciate your advice. I too went to Lowes, but unlike your buddy, when I saw the price of the tools, I decided right there and then to do as your friend did, use a hose clamp. I'll let you know if it works. I'm installing it this Saturday.
Thank you.

Good luck. He returned the tool after it failed to work.

Use SharkBite fittings.

FWIW I have a full set of Pex tools and fittings. I own two houses that were plumbed with PBT (polybutylene tubing) which is the gray stuff that fails when exposed to water treated with chlorine. Our houses were on well water up until around 15 years ago, when we switched to city water, now the fittings are failing. So when one fails I replace from the fixture down to the main run with Pex, eventually I will replace the main runs too.

Sharkbite fittings are great for repairs and I keep a few in my RV spares box. Too expensive to use for a full house plumbing job.

Shower Leak

Due to the PEM tool costs, I opted for a small hose clamp. It did the job. No special tools and no expensive parts.
