removing panels in Bath & Kitchen cabinets

I have a few panels I'd like to look behind for possible storage space on the cabinets in the bath vanity and kitchen.
Does anyone know if they can just be pried loose from the front without destroying them or the cabinet frame. I haven't been able to look behind them to see if they are screwed, glued or nailed??? .

Just as soon not break it if it doesn't need to be fixed!!!

Depends... some of them are mounted to the backside of the face frame then sandwiched. Others are face mounted between the frames to blocking. All of mine have been stapled with some glue. I pretty well trashed one getting it off the cabinet bottom. Had to reinforce the backside and glue it back together.

Most of my panels inside the cabinets were face mounted and could be pulled loose so I could see what was behind things and how they were mounted. Damaged panels aren't as noticeable inside a cabinet.

Replacement panels can be purchased but the are expensive and a PITA to source.

Pat,

Find yourself something heavy like a pegboard hanger or the like. Make a short (1/2" or less) 90 degree hook on one end and another longer one on the othe end for a finger hold. Hammer the short "L" flat.

Take the short hook and work it behind the panel and pull gently. If the panel is just held with pin nails or staples, it will come loose fairly easily. Continue around the panel slowly and you will have the panel out in a minute or two.

Remember to pull any mechanical fastners through the back side of the panel to avoid damaging the face of the panel.

Just be prepared for a rats nest of wires and constrution debris that may be hiding behind the panel.

If you do damage any of the panels and need to replace them, you can find things like door skins or unfinished paneling that can be stained to match the factory finish.

Thanks guys,
I like to think of this as damage control ..
Ask first and then if necessary, wing it..
I try to be careful but have been known to break the very thing I was trying to improve..

Guess I'll have to post some pictures..

Thanks again

I just realized that your "shades of mayhem" is a link.
Yup that's me.. almost???
Wife swears that's me
Especially since I fell off a ladder 4 years ago and broke my thigh bone.. two rods and 6 pins later I'm just fine but a lot more careful...
