We have purchased the fireplace for the Island mod, just need a little bit of time to install it.

Iíll have to get on the computer, because that link doesnít have anything about a fire place, and my phone goes back about 30 pages on the modification section and just spins and wonít go any further.??

Dimplex which came in the 3800 and I installed in a dead fireplace has curved 'plug in' inserts.

This is the one we got. It's curved so it fits our 3950's curved island nicely and it looks surprisingly good, and heats very well. For the price you can't beat it. IMHO

Did you just wire it to the island outlets or run a dedicated circuit?

Donzinger, I replaced our Notcold with a residential refer. I used that power source for the fireplace. Probably doesn't help ya much

Gotcha. Do you have any pics of the unit with the slide in? At just over 5 inches deep, I am concerned with the clearance for the couch.

Thanks!

donzinger, go back to the link I posted (post # 11) for a fireplace install done in a 3950 by another forum member. Scroll down and you can see his pics of the completed install. The fireplace is mounted flush into the island. The curved island wall at the fattest point is 7" deep. Meaning you can cut in the fireplace and not see it from inside the island cabinets.

Thanks! Looks easy enough. What is the bigger hole and grate below the installed unit? The spec sheet indicates that it is top vented. I saw on the product pages (Home Deport site) that there were holes on the side of the unit and the instructions show it being surface mounted only. Are these intakes? I am wondering if they shouldn't be blocked off by being inside the island...Sorry so many questions - just wanting to be sure.
