Yeah, I've got fans going... and I've seen your window shades. I want to shade the entire slide, which is why I'm thinking of another awning.
The rig is pretty well insulated, so that's not an issue. But the walls of the slide are so thin (by necessity), heat & cool air just radiates directly thru them... in turn, radiating the air inside. In winter, the slide walls are cold... and in summer, they are hot. The other walls aren't, but they are. That's why I think a large awning would help in summer, getting them out of the direct rays of the sun.

Arlan,
Nope, didn't see your post on those.
Where do you get those?
Thanks,

I've got shades similar to ATCguy. Got them from Carefree so the hardware matches the awnings. Nonetheless, I'm intrigued by an awning on the drivers' side. Never have seen it, but why not?

I got those at Shade Pro in San Diego. I called one day, they came and measured the next and the third day they were installed.
ShadePro Inc.: RV Window Awnings
They can exactly match your existing awning but the installer told me that was the cheaper grade material on the awning that comes from the factory. So I went with the one that is suppose to last longer. They also retract into and aluminum cover.

They make a huge difference on the inside temperature. I imagine slide toppers would help a bit more but I can't afford anymore weight.
I the summer time I try to park with the front of the rig pointed north so I have sun on the living side only in the morning.
In the winter I try to park with the front pointed west so the living side is in the shade most of the day.
Tom, also your mention of main living area being the hottest. You are so correct But a few strategically located fans make a world of difference.

Arlan, did you get the black see through fabric?
I am trying to decide on the awning and/or the MCD Innovations shades on the inside for my black panted 3905! We spend a lot of time in New Mexico (Dry heat) and Oklahoma (Wet heat) in the summer in upper 115 degrees. The biggest issue is the window frames heating up inside, if I keep the blinds down it creates and insulation barrier but i like to see out so decisions. The 2 pictures show the difference with factory shades closed and open and that's the outside temps in the shade and my truck was reading 115ish... Makes a big difference, so I figure awnings or better shades will be even better! I like it cold, I realize my 65 degree target might be a bit much, LOL.

I got the solid material. Wanted all the shade I could get out of them. It makes the widow area a whole bunch cooler.

Where are you staying in San Diego. If I were to guess I would guess Mission Bay, but really have no idea.
Have fun

Arlan,
We're staying at the Chula Vista RV Resort. Off the J street exit on I-5
Right on a marina, so nice ocean breezes and easy to where family resides...Imperial Beach.
