I seem to recall seeing those still be used on quite a few campers in the early 70's when we went camping with the guy that owned the service station on the corner. We usually went to one of the lakes nearby, but one year he took us to the beach, now THAT was living!

Over the Memorial Day weekend we camped at a county park near Englishtown NJ where they hold a giant flea market every day. While we were there we picked up these 2 scissor jacks. Lot's cheaper than buying them new. In the picture you can see them at each corner.

All I can say is WOW... what a difference in stability.

Now you're doin' it! Yes sir, an extra couple of minutes of setup gives you a whole new level of stability. Glad you're getting out there and using it!

Memorial Day 2015

I would be embarrassed to post a picture of my Voltage sitting in storage over the Memorial Day weekend.

The forecast of heavy rains caused this diehard knucklehead to do something I have rarely ever done. I cancelled my planned Memorial Day weekend trip to the Texas Hill Country and stayed home.

In hindsight it was a good call. The campground I booked on the Pedernales River didn't flood, but downstream it was raging and the flash floods on the nearby Blanco River were devastating. There were also several tornado warnings / sightings in the area and evacuations.

It's hard to cancel a trip that was planned & paid for months ago, but I learned a valuable lesson this week that sometimes it's the smart thing to do.

HornedToad- we had the same issue. Plans were made of months in advance and we ended up reluctant to go because of the pending weather. However we decided to make it and adventure anyway and so glad we did it was one of the best trips we've had in a long time.

The two times I tried that... it didn't work out for me.

Independence Day 2011 we headed to Mustang Island with Hurricane Arlene out in the gulf, about half way TPWD called on my cell to cancel my reservation because the park was closed. That same year on Labor Day weekend we had reservations at Possum Kingdom and were turned back at a roadblock for the wildfires.

I'm glad the rain only dampen your shoes and not the whole Memorial Day weekend... it looks like the kids had a great time!!!

I am loading up right now for our "Memorial Day" trip

I don't like crowds, so we normally don't camp on holiday weekends. We are heading up to a local BSA reservation to provide "technical" support for 50 pageant girls doing a campout. They have to sleep in tents and cook over an open fire. I don't have any restrictions I am supposed to be there to oversee the cooking and camping part. We have foil dinners and Dutch Oven menus planned. We also have three 6qt hand cranked ice cream freezers. Fresh homemade ice cream with hot fruit cobblers....

Leaving 0800 tomorrow and won't be back until Sunday afternoon. Should be fun, I do have access to a 20 amp plug for my camper, good thing I have a low draw AC

I forgot who advised me about RedRock RV Park in Idaho, but thank you, it will be one of our stops from now on……Close to fishing, 20 mins from West Yellowstone, nice owners, and what a view…

Glad you made that call. Texas has been getting hit really hard lately. It looks terrible on the news. When I retire I was thinking of moving from NJ to Texas. Somewhere near Odessa. The "safe" western side of Texas right?

No such thing as safe eh? And as we all know, tornadoes steer TOWARD Rvs...

Ken,

The only reason to move to Odessa is to work in the oil patch...
if you want to retire in Texas check out the Hill Country around Austin or the Gulf Coast.

We're on a ten year retirement plan and DW wants to get a place on the Guadalupe River north of New Braunfels.
