Red wire

So, finally got around to sealing my center AC unit. I've never had the shroud of. What's this red wire on the front that goes nowhere? Also a couple pic. What was in my hand is what was on there. Dismal. And after words. I'm running the AC now. Feels great

Could be a ground wire. Not circuit ground but equipment ground.

Mine has the same red wire. And my duct work tape looked like crap, also. Too bad the RV industry lacks quality control. I swear if I ever actually met someone responsible for building my trailer I'd probably deck him, lol.

my Solar system came with a similar looking wire with a ring terminal on it, its was a battery temp sensor, from the picture I can see a double conductor wire. I would say its a temp probe sending info to the control unit. - thats my best guess!!

You can take my shot at them too.

Fanboy,

Could just be the picture, but it looks like there has been some arcing on that terminal. Did you check it for power.

I can't get to my A/C manual right now, but I think I saw an electrical schematic in it.

A red ground would make sense in Dutchmens mind I'm sure, to me it means hot. But then what do I know, after all they do have the sales people design their products.

Looks like a pretty hefty wire in the picture, could be wired for a heat strip.

Heat strip sounds right. I also have a plug to nowhere. I was looking at heat strips (since this post) and it looks like the same plug. I think that may be a winner. I did not check for power. But no arching noticeable.

Take a look at the power distribution panel, is there a blank on the 120 side, See if it is pre-wired and the wire matches. Then try a continuity test, with very long jumpers.

That's probably a thermister at the end of the red cable. There appear to be two wires in that cable.

I can see that, but in my world it's the thermisses that tells stuff what to do.

Too big for a sensor or circuit ground wire. My vote is for a heating strip.
