Old wives' tales

I knew that tittle would get your attenion 😎. Since we have a thread on showing off our mods, I thought I would start a section on "other helpful hints". Whether they are camper related or not, they may help someone else.
My first one is more of a quetion that a hint. I left my Gator RS850 parked out side for two weeks, and a field mouse moved in and ate the wires off of my electric fuel pump. He also stored about 100 acorns in the clutch housing. What a racket that made once I repaired the fuel pump!
My first tale is I have heard that if you put mothballs around the frame the mice and squirls will avoid the area. This might help keep them out of campers too. Anyone know if it works?
I do not want to use the one bite poison I have because of my two Dashounds are always sniffing around looking for the varmits.

I can tell you we hang (use women's knee high nylons) moth balls all the entire exterior of our TH - does it work - don't know but I can tell you we have never had a mouse or varmint in our trailer.

Mice don't like moth balls..

Another Old Wives Tale: Dutchmen "builds" quality products. ( or does that qualify as advertising hype?)

True story, Bounce dryer sheets keep mice out as well. And they smell a lot better than moth balls.

My wife has mentioned the Bounce Dryer Sheet several times. Doesn't seem to keep anything away. Now Moth Balls of the other hand do. Problem is they also keep ME away.

Had mice in our last trailer. Put dryer sheets all over. Didn't deter the mice at all. Solved the problem by getting rid of the trailer. Planning on putting moth balls under the Voltage to deter the mice. Once one gets in, seems like they let every other mouse know where to go.

Strange, our house is in the woods and we have never had mice in our old camper.
Forgot to put them in our new one this winter and the little buggers chewed up a towel, put the sheets in there and no more mice.

I second the Bounce dryer sheets... Have been using them for 5 years now in 2 different campers stored in a pole barn and no problems.... YET

Not sure about the tale. But if you don't get divorced and she lives long enough

Over night I dont believe, over shorter time than if the battery is placed on a board on concrete, yes.

Next up.... Tooth paste will take the sting out of bee/hornet stings. I was also told by a paramedic that tooth paste has the same ingrediants that are used in intensive care units for artificial skin on burn victoms.

Old style rubber cased batteries yes. New fancy pants plastic cases no. I had a buddy that was a firm believer in the no batteries on concrete. But the tops of his batteries were damp and filthy which is where most of his parasitic drain was going. Tried to show him with a multi-meter but he wasn't seeing it.

Nana,

Explain to me what you mean by "hang (use women's knee high nylons) moth balls all the entire exterior of our TH".

Where exactly do you hang them?

Haven't had problems where the TH is kept now...but thinking about getting a lead on things this Fall.

Thanks,

Pirate

Pirate,

Yes I put moth balls into knee high nylons tie a knot and use a paper clip thru the knot and attach wherever there is someplace to "hang" it.

I usually put by the heater & refrigerator vent - and hang them off the leveling legs and then near the wheels of the trailer - I may do as many as 8 and as few as 6 depending on many much moth balls are in the boxes that I buy.

I also use the Downy Fabric sheets throughout the inside of the trailer and then in all exterior compartments and vent areas .......I'm not sure they keep the mice away but it sure smells nice when you open the trailer....
