Water pump gives out in a week
My water pump made it a week. Really is a piece of junk. Doesn't look to bad to change out. Guess I'll go with a shureflow.... and you say???
Thanks

Get it changed under warranty, replace it with the Shurflo and sell the warranty replacement unit to offset the cost.
It really is an easy swap out.
What brand is the faulty one? Maybe you just got a lemon.

Even the cheapest water pumps last longer than a week. Maybe you don't need to drag to the dealership for diagnosis if it's something as simple as a loose wire nut.

Not sure of the brand until I get in there. Yes warranty will cover and I'm sure dealership will get me a new pump and I'll save it for a spare. As for the pump that apperars to be history, it still runs but is making a loud knocking noise and continues to loose prime. Water tanks full all the simple stuff checked.
A visual inspection through vent hole doesn't show any water leaks around it on either intake or supply side. I think its just a cheap pump. When I turned it on... it vibrates violently shaking all the water lines and sounds like a car motor fixing to throw a rod.

Just a suggestion here.
Mine did that once after I had drained the tanks. I got air in the lines and and it took quite awhile to get it purged. If you are home (not boon docking) turn on all the faucets, including running a hose from your washing machine hookup and hold you toilet valve open. It took awhile but I got mine to go silent again and it was making really loud knocking sounds.
Also, hooking up to your city water connection and running that might help.

Thanks Arlan, I tried all that this morning. It would run smooth and loose prime without notice. I've used it the entire week, actually 8 days. I went ahead and replaced it with a new shurflow. The shurflow runs smoothly and cant even hear it. Although the specs are about the same I noticed an increase in water pressure. All is good. While in there I straightened out a few areas..."behind the wall".. oh my! Where is the pride in workmanship anymore.

Glad to hear you got it fixed. I just put a spare pump in my trailer. Just in case.

I had the same problem. Brand new trailer. First week. But mine started leaking, and was replaced no questions asked. I do find they are a noisy pump. How much did a shureflo cost you?

I'm too weight conscious to carry a spare pump but I understand why it would be a good idea. Remember that you can fill a bucket with fresh water from your dump valve. A pain but will serve until you get to a dealer.

Thanks for that reminder. Good thing to have stored away in my memory bank.

Slightly off-topic but I also keep a 4 liter jug of water by the toilet as it is handy for when you're travelling, at night when you don't want the pump to come on and wake everyone up, or when your fresh water tank is empty.

The Shureflow, is not near as noisy. The other problem I found was when they installed the pump other water lines were touching the pump. That alone sends vibrations down the line causing more noise. Really a bad install.

A little noise from the pump is not necessarily a bad thing. It is the best alert you have for a leak or a drip when the pump is on. I'll turn mine on from time to time just to check to see if I might have developed a small leak.

I agree! I do the same thing to check for possible leaks. I'm not saying its silent... but it doesn't sound like someone with a jackhammer under there like it did either.

Great learning here.
Couple of questions.
Where on the voltage is the water pump located?
What size fittings would I get on new pump ex. 1/2" barbed or screwed fitting?
Funny we are talking about water pumps, just had to replace my fimco pump on 25 gallon round-up sprayer, As I was trying to slide suction pipe from tank onto new pump I broke the barbed fitting (put soap around barbs) then another road trip back to town, just some days nothing goes right, except the Bud Light...... http://www.dutchmenowners.org/forums...s/sad-3295.gif

A new pump will come with the proper connections for the pump or you can simply use the OEM connections on the new pump. The OEM is PEX pipe and the pumps are all the same regarding intake and discharge sizes.
My pump is located in the basement, behind the wall and close to the fresh water intake panel.

I remember when we brought our trailer home. Had it in the driveway for a week and filled the fresh water tank the morning of our first trip. Turned on the pump to fill the water heater and nothing. Called the dealership and they came out and replaced it with a better brand. No problems since...
