42, I had another Toy Hauler before my Voltage, a Fuzion 39ft, with a Chev 2500HD SRW, we were on a trip and coming back from Salt Lake City on Hwy 80, There were high winds and we were going about 55, when we were hit with a good wind, the trailer was pushing the truck towards the side of the hwy, I slowed to 20, so I could keep control of the truck, yes it doesn't happen often, but I had to check my shorts…..After we got back I went and got my 3500 DRW….Yes the 2500 could pull the trailer, and it wasn't to bad going down big hills, the brakes would get warm, but the exhaust brake saved us….Now with a bigger Toy Hauler, I wouldn't mess with a SRW…it just to much weight...

I mistakenly convinced myself that towing our 3305 with a Ram Cummins 2500 quad cab, long bed would work. I installed Firestone Ride Rites, Helwig stabilizer bar, Bilstein shocks and Nitto tires with a 3,750lb load rating. It looked fine sitting still, and had plenty of power, but things get interesting when that much weight is moving. The rig never provided a good feeling of control and the suspension was way too spongy. Traveling north on I95 through Georgia, 65mph, we encountered a rather large dip in the roadway that was slightly off camber. We were launched into the left lane (thank God nobody was there) and began rocking up and down and side to side with the truck and trailer rocking in opposite directions. Thank God I was able to gather it back together. The suspension on the 2500 was not able to adequately manage that much dynamic load even with the upgrades. I knew I was well over the weight ratings of the truck, but figured the upgrades would take care of it. I was wrong. I kissed the ground when we got back home and traded for a Ram 3500 dually. The difference is HUGE providing total control of the load. The ride is so much better, smoother, so much more relaxed. The 3500 is also my daily driver, I’ve found the added width is only an issue when parking it so I use the parking spaces way out on the end of the lots. I do see a lot of folks towing heavy with 2500s, and I also wonder how much better a SRW 3500 would have been being over the rated weight limits too. This was my personal experience for what it’s worth, I’m very happy with the dually.

Well...thinking about it...my Silverado dually is not a "daily driver". It spends most of the time parked on a concrete pad next to my shop building.

I use the 'ol 2002 Dodge Dakota as my "daily driver".

I want the Silverado to last a lot of years...its a 2011 and I got it in November 2010...and today its got just about 54,000 miles on it.

I put together the cost of the truck, the Highway Products aluminum tool bed, the Voltage and the well customized RZR 800...and I'm probably somewhere around $230,000 rolling down the road.

So having that dually just for pulling trailers...

Just sayin'

Alright, I have looked high and low and cannot find a truck that will tow a 3200 pound pin weight. Not even a Ram 5500 chassis cab. What gives? What trucks are you all towing these giant rigs with? And do you abide by the trucks ratings?

I use my 2011 Silverado crew cab, long bed, DRW with Firestone air bags.

About 75 psi in the air bags, hitch up the Voltage Epic 3800 with 75 psi in the TrailAir.

The truck is level and the trailer is level.

Pulls very well with no problems!!!

Check out this towing guide. There are 3500s rated for 6,500 lbs max payload and 30K lbs max trailer weight. should be something that would work. Ram Trucks - Towing Capacity Chart

Sorry for the possible double post. When I didn't see it appear on the thread I posted again. I didn't know my posts needed to be approved by a moderator. The post contained a link to the Ram trucks towing capacity chart. You can get a 3500 DRW equipped to tow your rig safely.

Edit: the 3500 crew cabs 4x4 with the 6/7L Cummins, Aisin transmission and 4:10 gears is rated around 5,600 lbs max payload and 29,000 max trailer weight. I have the 3:42 gears so I'm limited to a max trailer weight of 20,500 lbs. I'm within the max payload, max trailer weight and GCWR since my 3305 has a max gross weight rating of 16,500lbs

I had a custom one made for the loft and the garage on our 3970, also did the master bedroom. the loft and the garage we had made 5 or 6 inches thick, approx 400.00 each and they're very comfortable now
