Got my new springs today and installed them much better don't think I will have to worry about these ones flattening also 3 out of the 4 original springs the main leaf was actually bent just in front of the eye

I'm flabbergasted by what I see in those pictures. That takes Lippert down a couple of notches in my opinion.
I just suffered broken equalizer links on both sides last week. They look almost as bad as the ones laying on the tire in Israel's picture. My springs look OK but I've now lost a lot of confidence in the other suspension components as a whole.

Yep, that's how my first set looked. The second set wasn't as bad since I only drove it 50 miles. And I'll never forget what the factory reps from Keystone and LCI told me during that three way call.

"You are probably carrying too much food in your kitchen".

And If you don't have the Correct Track, make sure your equalizers are moving freely, mine were pinched tight.

Do others find their leafs flattening like this when loaded near (or at) their 16.8k GVWR?

Our 2951 has a 16.8k GVWR and only weighs 11k empty, so I'm hoping this won't become an issue for us. However, I've noticed a lot of the Voltage toy haulers with 16.8k GVWR's typically weigh 13k-14k empty. With gear and toys that inevitably puts them very close to GVWR.

Our springs look exactly like that. I've already had to replace the shackles with heavier duty units.

My 3305 springs are doing the same thing. Anyone know where scottxpc ordered his from? I'm having trouble finding 4000# springs with eyes on both ends.

2017 3305 Same Issue

Hello, sucks one of my first posts has to be negative. Have the same flat spring issue, to the point the axle has hit the frame. Spring shop said these leafs are all chinese junk and not capable of handling any sort of decent load. Says most 2 axles are this way and he replaces them all the time. Cornerstone RV denied my warranty claim because the spring shop said the manufacture equipped the rv with insufficient springs.

Switching to MorRyde IS Suspension

Took our 3605 to Darlington/Myrtle Beach and it was a night mare. Had a tire blow out on I-75 in KY right before the TN border. It was like a bomb went off. The tread actually blew out and the sidewalls were intact. (Goodyear Marathons less than 3 years old and properly inflated before leaving) That took out the Schwintek motor wiring on the main slide at the back. We got taken to the cleaners on two new tires in Knoxville, but we didn't want to travel with the spare too far (VanGuard STR ii) Load Range E. Got to Darlington raceway and pulled into the campground and guy runs up and says you got a low tire. This was the opposite side of the blow out. By the time I got filled with water, it was flat, so must of hit something close to the campground. Another Goodyear bit the dust. The next morning I took the wheel off and got two new Hercules 901 14ply tires. By this time it was late Friday afternoon Labor Day weekend. When I was putting the wheels back on, noticed the shackle strap on one side was broken. I don't know if the break happened be cause of running in the campground with a flat tire or the break caused the flat tire. I must have made 50 calls over the next couple of days trying to get new shackle straps. On Labor day I got the idea of calling some machine shops to have a set made. On the 3605 the holes for the shackle are 9/16 in diameter and 2 1/4 on center with overall length 3 1/2 inches. The stock straps are only 3/16 thick. The bolts are long enough to handle 1/4 inch steel. I was fortunate enough find some one in and gave them the specs. The guy was going to make them for me on the spot. He called me back about 10 minutes later and told me he had a set that came off an old trailer and I could have them. The old used straps were better than the ones I took off. That got us to Myrtle Beach and back home. While at Myrtle Beach I found a place that actually had the Schintek wiring harness in stock. I was able to get to the plug on the inside and temporary run the cable out the door to the baggage compartment where the controller is. That got the slide out so my wife didn't have to climb over the island to get to the kitchen. Now that we are back home I need to figure out a different route for the slide wiring. Why they run that in the wheel well right above the tire is crazy.

This is the second blow out that has damaged the camper and dampened the trip. My wife gave to go ahead to upgrade to MorRyde IS suspension and disc brakes, so I have that scheduled in December to make a trip up to Elkhart to have that installed. I also need to get two more Hercules 901 14 ply tires, I don't trust the VanGuards.

Below are pics of the tire that blew and the shackle. I'm all for a class action suit. They are building them right to edge of the specs with no safety margin. Which not only endangers us, but also anyone driving around us when something breaks.

So I have been reading this thread and have been more than a little spooked. I have the 3305 which is a 2 axle toy hauler and I already forced my dealer to replace two of my leafs under warranty but on my last trip it felt like my trailer was rocking side to side. I have tire pressure monitor valve stems and pressures were fine so it was not a tire issue (which I later confirmed when I stopped).

I was doing about 60-65 which while a little fast is a speed I have towed at before over the past year with no issues.

When I slowed to 55 the issue went away. The odd thing is that I was towing empty. No toys or water just food and clothes. I have towed with my 1,600 pound RZR and bikes and 100 gallons of water before and had no issues.

I looked under the trailer at the leafs and I thought they were flattened out but not bad.

Had this issue coming home too so kept it at 55 and was okay. I then started thinking maybe I was fish tailing because of a lack of tongue weight and was imagining I was rocking. So when I got back I loaded up the RZR and took it back to my storage lot and went 65 and think there was no issue but not really enough time towing to say for sure.

Well this morning I took it to a trailer shop with the RZR inside and had the repair guy give everything a good look. His initial reaction was everything looked okay. He claimed that if the leafs are a little flattened in the middle that is okay as long as the ends are arched.

But he also said the suspension was probably not a good long term set up and he recommended going a different route replacing the morryde with heavier duty stuff (Dexter I think?) and he also suggested fabricating new leaf springs with additional leafs inserted. He also said you have to be careful going too stiff as that can really stress the trailer. I think I will go that route and will report back but he needs to order some stuff in before he can start.

So at least for now I feel okay that all my suspension is in good shape and safe. I think I will just keep it at 55 until I do the upgrade.

Update

After my extended warranty company denied my claim, I ended up paying for new springs out of pocket. Prolly the best money ive spent. Went to a 8 leaf made in usa spring setup installed at north county spring in escondido california. Owner said he does 20-30trailers a month from this same issue of cheap chinese springs.

Thanks, can you tell me where he sources the springs? They guy I went to said they all come from China and he can’t source 8 leafs so he is going to create his own. I would love to tell him where to buy them.

Thanks.

Like you and others on this thread, I have struggled with blowouts on camping units for years. After my first harrowing blow out on a Turtle Top van many years ago, I was overly cautious about low pressure and possible high heat.
After about 4 more blowouts I discovered a new failure mode. When you run radial tires at or just below maximum capacity, the belt flexes and fails much sooner than you might expect. Add to that, lack of quality and margin for error by some tire manufactures and you get what you show in your picture. I can't prove your tire failed this way, but it looks like it.
The only solution I found is to use oversize tires as much as your trailer will handle. My old folding trailer periodically blew out until I installed wider tires with an additional 400 pounds capacity (1400# dry weight). I was already using the maximum available for the OEM size.

So far so good.

We just got back from a trip to the UP in Michigan. The new G rated Hercules 901 tires and new shackles seem to make a difference. Seems like the camper rode better. My springs look like they are starting to flatten. I'm wondering if the equaflex equalizer is working right. Reinforces the decision to get the Moreryde IS installed in Dec.

About 6 months after replacing my springs with 8 leaf 4000 lb springs we had the next step happen where the spring hangers broke from the frame we had the More Ryde IS installed in February and wow what a system these trailers should come factory with this system !!Click image for larger version

Just replaced my leafs with 8 leaf American made springs suggested by msiscott. Went to the same place in North County San Diego for the install. Great shop. Nice guys and total pros. He took the time to show me all the junk he removed and even said some of the hardware was already in bad shape after what I estimate as 3,500 miles tops (my China bomb Westlake tires by the way looked great and surprised them as wear was even and plenty of tread left. I am meticulous with pressures and have remote sensors so I keep them at 80 and no issues yet)

I went with 8 leafs made by Triangle in Fontana, CA and new hangers and shackles. Not cheap at about $600 in parts and $500 in labor but I feel a lot safer now. We junked the Mohr ryde suspension as the rubber was already flattened out and compromised and went with a solid piece by Red Neck trailer that while probably not as forgiving on the bumps should last much longer. I hit 70 mph plus on the way home and no bounce or rocking so I am happy.

This is a 7 leaf compared to my 6 because they didn’t have any 8 leafs to show any more as I took the last ones.

This shackle shows how it was already starting to “oval” which allowed the bolt to turn. I wish I remember the thickness but this one is too thin. This is a really inexpensive part that Lippert or someone really cheaps out on. New ones are thicker.

A nice by product is my trailer now sits higher in the rear by at least 2 or 3 inches so I don’t ground out as easy anymore either.

I will report back down the road but I expect much less stress down the road—literally!!

Went to Rv show in Fontana and picked up the morryde sre-4000 and wetbolt kits on sale. Installed in about half a day. So much better ride with the rubber mounts. We don’t feel the 5th wheel in the truck from the bad roads in California .

Are there also suspension problems with 18 3605 with Morryde suspension?

We did this on our 2014 3895 triple axle. The ride is so much better than what the factory puts on. We have had our problems with the unit. But not suspension so far
