V3950 Weight ??
Good Morning,
I'm trying to make sure I understand Dutchmen's weight label correctly.
On their brochure they list the V3950 as " Average Shipping Weight (lbs.) 15,874 ".
Would this be considered "Dry weight" ???
When I refer to "Dry-Weight" I mean the trailer sitting complete empty, no water,
no propane,no gear.

IIRC, I read somewhere that said it was all holding tanks empty and propane tanks full. I will say though, that 15,874 is pretty low, I think we were almost 1,000 lbs more than that when empty.

Thanks for the reply Cale,
We found a 3950 yesterday and made a pretty good deal on it. The 3950 seems to be about 1K more then the other TH we had been looking at. I'm trying to get a better under standing of how Dutchmen list their weights because if 'm figuring this right I would only be 80LBS under the maximum towing capacity for my brand new 2015 6.7 F350 CC LB 4x4 thats listed @ 15,700K fifth wheel towing capacity on Ford's specs.

You have a SRW? If you like to follow the truck manufacturer numbers, this trailer will not be a good fit. My 3950 loaded and ready is 19,600 lbs with a 3,800 lb pin weight. My 2015 F-350 4x4 CC LB DRW has a 14,000 lb GVWR. With a full transfer tank, people, and the pin weight, we use every bit of the 14,000 lbs...
With that being said, there is a gentleman here that full times in a triple axle Cyclone (weights comparable to my 3950), he tows with a 2014 Ram 2500. He says it tows like a dream, he replaced his tires with ones that can handle the weight, but I think he fails to address the suspension and braking requirements....

Hello,
I'm sure my truck will pull the trailer (no problem, I wouldn't go that far). But I agree, it will only do it for a period of time when it's maxed out. I'm trying make sure I'm not over loaded and jeopardizing anyones safety while out on the road. Thats why I'm trying to get a better under standing of how Dutchmen labels there weight.
We debated if we should should buy a dually or not at the time of the new truck purchase. Now we are really debating it??

I'm sure your truck will pull it... but man, out there in CO, no way would I want to try to control the braking with a rig that heavy in your truck on those long and sometimes steep CO roads. I used to pull my relatively light model 3200 (max GVWR: 16,500) with my F-250 single rear axle... and I didn't like the feeling coming downhill on these east coast molehills we call mountains. I was downshifting and in 'Tow Mode' (which engages engine braking), and still found myself uncomfortable snaking down I-40 on the NC/TN border northwest of Asheville. It wasn't long after that I traded for my current F-450 dually.
In my opinion, you're asking for trouble. Maybe not on your first trip, or 2nd... but somewhere down the line you're gonna be tempting fate once too often.
That Dutchmen weight listing is usually for a stock trailer with no added accessories and/or packages. You start adding the double fridge, the patio option, the exterior tv option, etc... all of that is adding more & more weight. The only way you're going to KNOW is to either have the dealer weigh it for you in house, or take it to a truck stop with a set of CAT scales. Then you'll take the guess work out for the empty weight.

That would be my suggestion. Get it weighed on a CAT scale. My 3905 empty (no water , empty tanks, full propane and pots &pans in the drawers) weighs in at 16200lbs, with 3400lbs on the hitch pin. Your 3950 has an extra bathroom I believe, so should weigh more than mine.

I have a 3818 which weighs close To the 3090 I had a 2015 F-350 LWB single wheel it pulled it fine but it would scare the crap out of you when you went down a step incline. Also the wind would blow you around pretty bad. I just got a 2015 F-350 LWB dual wheel it is a night and day difference

I have a SRW F-350 & that's why we picked the V3605. That was the largest I would feel safe towing.

Bkuuz1, don't forget that 15,700lb fifth wheel towing capacity assumes your truck weighs less than 7800lbs to stay under the GCWR of 23,500. That's another delightful aspect of the "numbers game" the manufacturers play. Oh, and the pin weight for 15,700lbs of trailer should be between 3100 and 3900lbs roughly, and that'll count against GVWR. I'd weight the truck, too. My apologies if I'm telling you stuff you already know, it took me some time on these forums to figure out all the math!

We left today on a long, long trip. Stopped for fuel and hit the CAT scale. Truck and Trailer total was 29,900#'s. That allows me to gain 600#'s and be within my trucks limit.
Ouch, find a dumpster.
At least I am carrying some water.
Problem is, I always gain weight when traveling.
We felt good on the road. But are still in the flat lands.
Time will tell.

This may make me a nerd, but after I bought my camper I hit the scales on every trip and got weights for all my different "configurations". Now I know how much water I can have on board, or if I need to dump my tanks before I leave based on whether I'm bringing one or two motorcycles, or supplies for a weekend vs a week. I also made a chart to add up all the weights, with a tire load inflation chart on the back. Yes, I've got too much time on my hands, and miss having to do aircraft weight and balance forms...

Not at all my friend. I have a stack of weight scale tickets from previous outings.
I am about 300#'s heavier than I have ever been.
We do have one extra person (my 98 year old mother, this is going to be interesting). She doesn't weigh much but she has "stuff".
I will take care to not add anything I don't use up. I hooked to the campgrounds water and sewer. The water won't help me lose weight but the sewer will.
At least I can get a good, long, hot shower before the boon dock period.

Not at all and I'm sure some members would like to see that chart......
I have charts (or lists) that I use for trips out - for food, clothing & money depending on length of time - seems the only thing we never have enough of is money!

3950 Weight Differences
My, new to me, Voltage 3950 has a UVW sticker of 16,098# My weight on the scales, after subtracting the truck weight, nets out at 17,880! Hitch weight of 3,860#. Water and holding tanks empty. No food, toys or clothes. Trailer has all the 3950 goodies but nothing extra other than the 3rd ac. Any idea where the difference is?
Interesting as I bought this unit based on the brochure stats of UVW of 14,568# and hitch weight of 3071#
Thoughts?

Well I decided to run over the scale today on the way back from the drag races in Charlotte, NC. We had the golf cart in the back and our normal travel gear. My wife and I were in the truck with our 14lb dog. I did not unhook and weigh the truck alone, may do that another time. Here are the numbers;
Steer Axle 4,720
Drive Axle 7,960
Trailer Axle 16,040
Gross Weight 28,720
So, just a guess but I would say the Trailer is coming in real close to 20k! No sure how much water we were hauling but guessing 20-30 gallons. Just dumped the grey and black water tanks. had about 25 gallons of gas in the rv tanks. Had 26 gallons of diesel in the truck.
