Time for a new mattress, what do you recommand?

Howdy All,

The only real complaint I have with my 3818 is the mattress, its supposed to be a "deluxe" well if it is they have a different definition of deluxe then I do. I feel like I am sleeping in a hole in the ground rather then on a bed.

So have any of you other folks changed out your stock mattress for something different, if so what did you buy, what did it cost and where did you get it, most of all do you like sleeping on your up-graded mattress? Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Dave

Yeah, I too had the "deluxe memory foam" mattress in my rig. It lasted all of 2 trips before I replaced it with the same mattress I have on my bed at home: a TempurPedic Weightless Supreme. Only difference is I have a king at home, and a queen in the RV.

There are certainly cheaper options... but I'm one of those people who believe in investing in my sleep. Considering that we spend over 30% of our lives in bed, and that the quality of our sleep has a big impact on the quality our our day... I have no problem making sure my bedroom is as comfortable as can be. I use 1000 count sheets & pillowcases & a TempurPedic pillow.

As such, I gotta tell you... whether at home or in my RV, I sleep like a baby at night, and I wake up every morning feeling great.

We went and just got a 3" gel topper for ours, much cheaper, and its hard to pick a mattress unless you can lay on it. We looked into changing it and a local mattress place said they could get us one but we had to get them the dementions, they are usually shorter than a standard household mattress. With the extra cost of the "special order" it was going to be over 1200, topper cost us 175 with using a few coupons at Kohl's.

4" combo memory foam topper, it's the best $170 ever spent on a camper.

Howdy All,

Thanks for the replies. The mattress in my trailer is super soft, when I sleep on it I wake up in a 4-5 inch deep trench, those of you who have used a "topper" are they firm enough to make up for the soft mattress or will I end up with the same problem?

Looking around the net it seems you can get a mattress at prices from around 300 bucks to well over a 1,000 but I haven't found any place near my home where I can try one out before buying, no way I am going to spend a grand plus on something I have never seen nor had the chance to lay down on.

Those of you who have bought a different mattress especially those who have bought an RV specific mattress where did you get it, what did it cost? Thanks.

Dave

Dave - can't recall the model or the cost but we went to Denver Mattress and got the exact model that we have in our home for the camper due to both of us having herniated discs - a little pricey but well worth it as we don't have to "get used" to a different bed the first night or two out. It is heavier so the struts more than likely will need to replaced with something more robust.

I have a sleep number queen sized bed and love it. We also have a sleep number king sized at the house. We got our at a great sales price from camping world (it was even better than buying direct from sleep number).
The Sleep number RV mattresses are made of flame proof (or fire proof, I forget which) for RV use.

I believe we paid just under $1,200.

The mattress in our toyhauler was to hard. So I bought this

Amazon.com: Queen Size 3 Inch Thick, 4 Pound Density Visco Elastic Memory Foam Mattress Pad Bed Topper. Made in the USA: Home & Kitchen

and hated it. It was to soft and every morning I got out of bed with a back ache.

Also bought this

Amazon.com - Milliard 2-Inch Egg Crate Ventilated Memory Foam Mattress Topper, Queen - Foam Pads

and this

Amazon.com - Extra Plush Rayon from Bamboo Fitted Mattress Topper - Made in America - Queen Pad - Mattress Topper.

The last two items are on there now. The bed is to soft.
I should have purchase a new mattress in the first place.

Second vote for Sleep Number. Hated what came with the RV originally. Mattress looked like it had a dead body in it, very lumpy. We love the Sleep Number bed, and are thinking of getting one for home. We spend 5 weeks at a time in the RV, and wife could not get a good night's sleep with original matters. She sleeps great now.

I agree. We took the deluxe mattress out of out Voltage the day it came home. Replaced it with a Select Comfort Sleep Number. We also have Sleep Number at home as well. Everybody stays happy.

Purchased I comfort Serta memory foam mattress first week I purchased my voltage. Same mattress I have at home. It's fairly light compared to old style coil spring mattresses and very comfy to me

We have the foam mattress that is sold at Costco at home. We just duplicated it in the coach in a queen size and love it. I think the cost for the queen was about $400.
