Silicone used on outside

I bought some non leveling lap sealant for my Toy Hauler (2018 3605)just to touch up the seams for good measure. Now mind you this trailer is only 2 months old but I am OCD. I got ready to apply the sealant and lo and behold the factory used Silicone sealant. We all know that the Dicore lap sealant will not adhere so I ask WHY did the factory go with Silicone sealant? WTH!

Has no one else run into this or is just lucky me?

Is that on the roof? That's a definite no-no. My camper has fiberglass walls and they used what appears to be a black silicone to seal around all the ports and vents.

no, not on the roof. It's along the sides (fiberglass with gel coating sides). All the moldings along the side are sealed with it. I don't have a problem with it but I purchased dicor lap sealant to touch it up and now I'm wondering if I have to remove the silicone to get the dicor sealant to stick. The roof is fine and I haven't seen any silicone of the roof.

I did the same thing, bought black pro-flex sealant to go over the moldings down the sides. Yes, the silicone has to go, mine was starting to peel in spots, so I'm ripping the silicone off a section at a time and re-caulking it. That stuff is rough to work with, you've got one chance to lay a smooth bead, there's no using the "finger swipe" method like you can do with silicone.

I just ran out and checked my caulk joint, after 2 years it's still flexible and a little sticky after it's cleaned, I see no reason why eternabond wouldn't stick to it. Although the stuff I used is for horizontal applications, not roofs.
