Shower Faucet leaking

My shower faucet is leaking a substantial amount of water from the bottom of the faucet. The water comes out between the edge of the faucet plastic and the white seal that sits in between the faucet and shower wall.
I wasn't really worried about it until I had a bunch of water running on the bathroom floor, coming from underneath the shower.
My guess is that the water is coming out of the leak, hitting the top of the access panel and getting behind it, then making its way straight to the floor under the shower.
Anyone have experience fixing something like this?
The water lines are connected on the back of the faucet via plastic nuts (they are on tight) so I'm guessing that I'd have to unscrew both of those and then try to slide the faucet out. Not sure if this is a seal issue or something is just loose inside of the faucet unit.
Thanks!

My guess would be the faucet is cracked and the real problem is behind the shower stall.

When I install a faucet, I put a bead of kitchen and bath caulk on both sides of the gasket, then install the faucet.

Mine did the exact same thing...I ordered another off Amazon and installed it. What I found when I took the old one off...the rubber gaskets that go are supposed to go between the faucet and wall were actually on the other side of the wall...meaning there was no gasket to stop water.

Once I installed the new one, I used some 15 year GE bath and tub sealant around the faucet and replaced the screws with some stainless.
