Reframing my Pass-thru Storage

I finally got around to installing my hardwired surge suppressor. When I pulled down the internal wall of the pass-thru storage I figured I could gain some space by moving a few things. I moved the transfer switch up onto the wall next to where I mounted the surge suppressor. I wanted to move the vacuum to a location closer to the door but the furnace takes up the room I needed so I moved it back under the power converter. I also ripped out all of the crappy stapled together 1x1's that the wall framing was made out of. I rebuilt the framing with 2 1/2" wide boards and pocket screws instead of staples. Tomorrow I will finish this and hopefully get the wall covering back on. I picked up 10 to 15 cubic feet of additional storage just by moving what was there.

I did the same thing to my 3605. One thing I did was put a hinge on the corner where you have your 90 degree for your vac. Makes for quick access.

Wish i had thought of the hinged access when i was rebuilding mine. On a side note, any idea why dutchmen would leave that much unused space behind the walls?

Easier and faster assembly. I mounted my vac under the steps by the door and its tight, but fits. Also eliminated about 4 foot of hose.

Lazy and it probably cuts down on build time to not have think about anything. I mean look at their precision length wiring harnesses and neat bundling.

Jeff, I considered that also but thought the wife would not want the unit visible in the living space. Also, the woofer for the sound system was mounted right there behind the wooden louvered vents and I couldn't see a better place to put it.

I didn't get finished tonight. The rain got here a little sooner than I expected. I have one more panel to cut and install, then I can start putting the stuff back in.

I did make a slight change in plans (after consultation with the wife). I decided not to put the cheesy cloth covered almost cardboard panels back on. I went with 1/2" plywood. That gives me a heftier surface to put up hooks and hang things on for better organization.

Good call on the plywood. I have seen a couple where they used 1/4" pegboard instead. Made for some serious OCD organization.

How much space do you think you gained? I've started to remove some of my panels but I haven't gone much further than that since I wasn't sure I would gain much more room.

I gained a ton of space doing mine, rather than having a bump out for the vacuum I have it mounted through the wall facing toward the hitch.

No. The right side is toward the hitch and my leveler system hydraulics are there and the generator is on the other side.

My furnace sits to the left of the door and there is no room for the vacuum there. You can see in the first photo the new wall frame is right up against the furnace and plumbing going to the black and gray tanks.

Gained 10 to 15 cubic feet of space. If I had moved the converter (silver box hanging down in one of the first photos) and found a place to fit the vacuum I could have picked up even more space. Also moving the vacuum to the front wall would have made hose connections very problematic. As I stated earlier the space under my steps is where my sound system woofer is and there is no place else to put that. I think I maxed out the space gains.
