Mine failed in the locked position. In the locked position I can manually open the ramp and it latches locked again when you shut the ramp. I have opened and closed my ramp a dozen or more time manually and the ramp locks each time I close it.
Also some are talking about the dual nine volt batteries and on my coach they are a redundant system so the main 12 volt system is first, second is the nine volt and you have to physically disconnect from 12 volt and connect to nine volt, then third is mechanical by removing the rubber plugs up high in the corners of the ramp frame.
To disconnect from 12 volt to nine volt is easy it is a molex type plug that only connects one way so you can't reverse polarity by mistake going to either battery configuration.
As others also say if you have toys in the garage and need manual release it can be rather difficult.
