Ramp door

Out of curiosity does anyone know how the garage ramp door is constructed?

Apparently not very well as there have been a few cases of the ramp splitting apart at the hinge end. Mostly due to loading things like golf carts.

Haven't seen any complaints lately but it is a xxxxxxxxxx product so it's prone to failure.

Let me revise this, I don't know who makes the ramps, perhaps Lippert Industries because this ramp seems to be the norm for all flavors of toy haulers in the RV sector.

I am guessing the primary material is plywood. I had the patio open while raining and got to worrying about water intrusion. I suppose I should be concerned.

Its a lippert componet. When I went to the factory they were pre built and stacked ready to install. I personally wouldn't drive anything too heavy on it. I have a car hauler trailer and the ramp doors are no comparison.

My understanding is there are 2-4x8 sheets of plywood inside the door. If you have the optional patio ramp, there is a sheet of metal underneath the textured surface for protection against deck chairs and such or so I've heard. The ramps have been known to split down the middle where the two sheets of plywood come together. So far, the ramp has survived my Honda Goldwing.

I have the patio option. My ramp has had my sons Victory Vulcan (900 lbs) & my Burgman (650 lbs) on it with no problems.

I have driven my Can-Am Commander on it, it weighs in at 1350lbs and it doesn't seem to flex at all, now granted the wheels track closer to the outside edges and not near the center, my goldwing weighs in at 850lbs dressed and same thing. No flex that I could see.

I was wondering the same issue at first, but after loading a few times of each machine, I'm confident it's good to go.

Text thing that's going to test it is my wifes horse.

I've never owed horses, but I would use caution as the ramp can be slippery. My golf cart will spin the tires if they are wet so I can only imagine what little traction a metal horseshoe will have on the hard rubber (plastic) of the ramp door.

The set-up we have bought for the horse stall has a rubber mat that we install on the rams door. Here's the info if your are interested.

I have loaded my nearly 2000 lb. 1986 Suzuki Samurai many times into the garage of my 3950 and have seen no major flex or issues. I do have the rear patio option and it said somewhere that the ramp is reinforced for that. However, I find it difficult to believe that the manufacturer went through the expense of designing and building 2 different ramps for that option.

I have a new 3895 and as yet have not loaded our two Harleys, a Road King and a Dyna. I previously had a Fuzion 402 and one time while loading the Road King I heard a load crack from the ramp door. Scared the bejeezus out of me but no visible damage. From then on I always put an appropriate size support (a 2x4) under the door while loading, near the hand grab at the edge of the door. Our 3895 will get the same treatment. An ounce of prevention...........

My 3600 came with 3 rubber bumpers on the door. I added two more just to help even out the stress on the door.
