Power awning

Hi everyone
I would like to know if it's ok to tie down the awning ? I was going to do it lightly just enough to keep it safe?
A camper was seeing that I was going to do this and said that would not be a Good Idea ?
Any thoughts?
Thanks

I don't know about your rig, but I would need a 10' step ladder to get to my awning, and if its an electric awning, no need to, it has shocks to absorb the wind, if its too windy for that, it should be rolled in, you'll tear it right out of the track on the side of the trailer. not something I would recommend. best to roll it up until the wind passes

Good question! I just made a system to tie my awnings down using soft strap ties and 800 pound para cord. The soft tie goes around the awning arm and para cord loops up from a stake with a loop then back down. I also have a three foot pice of para cord that hangs from the soft tie. So it the wind comes up hard and unspectedly I just release the para cord from the stake, pull it throught the soft tie, grab the three foot piece to remove the soft tie and the awning is ready to retract. It take less than minute to do it.

So, is it good idea to tie the awning down? I doubt it!

If it is really windy I think things will get messed up.

I had my awning out today and the wind got up to about. 15 mph. It was flapping enough for me to think about retractng it then the wind calmed and stopped . I did not have my tie down system on.

Although I thougt I came up with brilliant idea I am giving it second thoughts.

I DON'T have a power awning and tie mine down regularly. I use the Camco Kit. I have used it in some pretty strong winds with good results. With my awning being manual having to roll it up is a PITA. So I figure staking it out is the way to go. My pop up had a bag awning and we staked it out regularly too. In all of my camping years I have never lost an awning. I have seen plenty of others get damaged and fail.
