New Truck

Well after all the threads read, and opinions and worries. I traded my 2009 2500 duramax for an 11 Ram 3500 Dually. My GMC was a great truck, but with my 2 yr old little girl always with me I decided to go safer route to the dually to pull our V3605. I hope I made the right choice. Anyone with this year cummins how do you like it?

2011 3500

I have the 2011 3500 dually with the 650 foot pounds of torque. We tow a 3200 voltage. You will like the Dodge. It does have the power to tow. You will love the dually, it makes everything very stable. What you will not like is the fuel milage. Because of the dual over drive of 5th and 6th gears, I tow in 5th gear and I set the cruise at 65 miles per hour. I am running at a little over 2000 rmp and am lucky if I see 8 miles to a gallon. In 6th gear I need to run about 75 miles per hour or I start lugging the engine. My truck has 3.73 gears. Enjoy the truck!

Squiggy, Thank you for the reply. I'm ok with that type of mileage as long as everything is running good and safely. I really appreciate the comment makes me rest easier knowing its a good truck

Mine is a high output ram 2012 srw pulling max weight of 14,500. Have seen from 8 to 11. Typically go down the road at 65mph. Toggle between 5th and 6th. 3:73's. Didn't know those extra two tires would cause that much loss. Will be interested to see how you do. From my research it appears the major 3 all get about the same fuel mileage towing. Good luck think you'll really like your truck

My last TV was a 2012 Ram 3500 DRW. My new rig is the same, but a 2014. Love them both. Personally, I wouldn't tow with anything but a Ram. I drive Duramax's and 6.7 Fords for work. If Ram went out of business, I'd buy a Ford, but GM will never get a penny from me.....Let the flaming begin.

LOL I do like pulling with a cummins. I had an 08 that was a good truck. I'm hoping to keep this one stock and not have any issues with DPF or EGR, time will tell.

I too went from a DMAX to a Cummins. Much prefer the 11 Cummins dually. No DEF! I pull a 3950 6th gear overdrive on flat terrain at 65-68 I've seen nothing less than 10mpg. Instant read fluctuates between 10-12. Get a cold air intake and exhaust to help the truck breath and you'll see a 1-3 mpg gain

i'm pulling a 3605 with a 2015 duramax cc drw, and see anywhere from 8-11mpg with stock intake and exhaust. my buddy has same truck with all the exhaust crap taken off, and pulls his trailer at 15mpg, I'm really looking at yanking that emissions crap off my truck too. No smog check here in Alberta to worry about, just warranty

I also run the 2011 ram with high output drive train. Never had any problems. about the same mileage, 8-11. did the dpf and egr delete and a tuner with very little results. Don't think I would do it again or waste the money. But has been very dependable with 75,000+ miles.

I got a 11 cummins with the deletes as well. While you might not get mileage, you will get dependabiliy and piece of mind. Tows my 2900 Rubicon with ease.....
