Just a Thought: Thinking Trade-In

After a quarter million miles of riding, I'm significantly reducing the number of miles I'll be riding in the future. As such, probably not needing a toy hauler. Problem is, like usual, I jumped into this thing with both feet. Before I exert a lot of effort in getting beat up from dealers, I thought I would pick the brains of you very knowledgeable people on this site. How bad do you think I'll get beaten on a:

2015 black, Ford F-350 Platinum diesel dually with 10,000 miles, and every option Ford made for it less the snow plow package, 4:10 rear end, and rear seat DVD player. In excellent, excellent condition.

2015 Voltage 3990 toy hauler, burgundy and black full paint, again with every option Voltage sold, plus I added, automatic remote satellite, solar, vented washer and dryer, Carefree toppers on all three slides, Carefree window awnings, water filtration, power Maxx Air vent in second bath, Maxx Air covers on all vents, and some interior modifications like shelving and drapes. Again, in excellent condition.

What do you think I could get? Thinking of moving to an Allegro pusher diesel.
Thanks,
Rusty

Rusty,

You will take a beating on both if you trade them in.

Take a look at similar units on a the dealers lots, take their prices and reduce by at least 30% and you will be in the ball park of what they will offer you.

I would reseach dealer prices and discount them some, advertise and sell them as a unit.

I see a few ads every year around my area offering truck/trailer combinations and they seem to sell fairly quickly.

The worst that can happen is you wind up going the trade route in the end.

Hello Rusty, before I bought the Triton toy hauler, I considered selling it and going with just a fifth wheel rv. Didn't take long for me to come to my senses! I've been riding for 45 years and it's in my blood however the way people drive these days, it's a challenge.
Good luck on whatever you decide!

How much of a hurry are you in? Private sale usually beats trade in every time, I say usually because I have managed to get some unreal trade in values on occasion.

If you aren't in a hurry, do your research as to what dealers are charging for similar units and offer yours for 10%-20% below what the dealers are asking. Your rig is new enough that you shouldn't have too much trouble selling it to someone looking for that setup. FWIW I typically prefer to buy gently used versus brand new.

We have a 2015 Coleman that I looked at trading in, they were offering me less than 50% of current retail value. For that I will keep it and sell it or give it away.

The problem is "trade in value" is all a game of smoking mirrors. Years ago I went to trade my vehicle in I was looking for $15,000 difference out the door. I told salesman he could charge me $100,00 out the door for his if I got $85,000 for mine. He could have mine free if he sold his for $15,000 OTD.
Bluebook trade value was $6,000 for my car.
We settled on $2000 for mine & $17,500 OTD for his. So I missed my target by $500
