I found loose connections on the winterizing valve. Do I bypsssed it and that solved the air issues. Pump still won’t shut off, even when I kink the outlet hose. I think that part of the pump is bad. I’m going to try my skate pump and if that fixes it, I’ll be getting another 5gph Surflo under warranty.

Yep. That’s it. Auto shutoff mechanism was bad and a fubar’d winterizing valve.

Could be something in the switch mechanism keeping it from shutting down. I had an ant stuck between the contacts once that kept the pump from starting so something might be it in there. The switches used to run around 35 bucks but I don't know now.

I think the pump is adjustable. Comparing the two, there’s a difference in where the adjustment set screw is. I’ll keep the ‘old’ pump as a backup and mess with that bypass adjustment if I ever need to use it.

Wouldn't hurt to back the adjustment off a little.

Yeah, there’s two set screws and the instructions say you Ben adjust the automatic bypass / shut off pressure. Which screw it is I’m not sure if.

If I remember correctly on the old pumps the adjustment screw was on the face of the switch with a lock nut.

This is a pump I tore down for a tutorial to reveal the operation of the pump head.

Nice.

I replaced the original Atwood a while back with a Sureflo for better performance. I’m on my 3rd one now, but because I had missed other issues. My winterizing valve and flex hose were the problem drawing air in and the latest pump wasn’t adjusted well causing it to stay on.

I cut the basement wall to provide quicker access to the plumbing. I’m way to familiar in that area now.

My issue is solved now. I don’t need a winterizing valve, so I’m not plumbing it back in.
