Furion head unit replacement

Evening everyone. New to the forum but been searching old posts for a couple weeks now. Just brought home our first fifth wheel and toy hauler - 2016 Voltage 4105. Very excited to use this beast.

My question. Has anyone found a good replacement for the P.O.S. Furion Stereo/DVD head unit? The sound produced from this stereo is horrid!
I've been trying to find a previous thread on replacements. Most of you have said to just get a Bluetooth speaker. I don't want to go that route. I want to use the existing Sony speakers inside and out so replacing the stereo with a new DVD, USB, Bluetooth and SD card capable unit is my dilemma.
I'm fine installing a separate switch to route sound inside or out. The head unit doesn't need this function.
Any suggestions or success stories?

First thing to change is the speakers.

I agree the Furrion "head unit" isn't anything to get excited about.
And I love having 3 pair of built in speakers strategically installed in their rightful "zones".

But I'm going to have to concur with chily3. Have you removed one of these speakers and taken a gander at it? They can't be more than $5 buck speakers.
Another issue, at least on my RV, is there isn't enough room\depth for quality speakers for the ones that are ceiling mounted inside. The ones on the front porch (outside) do have the spacers that hold the speakers away from the wall and provide what looks like sufficient space for some quality replacements. I'm eventually going to find something similar for the interior speaker holes and then replace them with better drivers.

At that point, yea, that Furrion will indeed be the weak link. I might replace it with a nice 12V head unit. But may choose to go with home theater receiver instead.

Again, I love the layout and distribution the RV came with. But ALL of the components that make up the "system" are el-cheapo crapola.

These are the ones I used to replace my inside speakers. They are a ton better than the $5.00 original. Have not even looked at outside speakers as do not use them much.

You're pretty convincing sir.

At that price, I doubt I'd be disappointed even if just a stop-gap until I go all out.

Thanks!!

X2.... the Sony speakers are 80% of your sound issue... replace with some Polk 6.5 at about 69$ a pair and you will be impressed sir!

one other thing to check, I balanced the radio left to right and found out the two spks in the living area are both on the left channel and the two in the garage are both wired to the right side. wired it correctly and it sounds a lot better, and yes change your speakers

With your handle, that doesn't surprise me you discovered the mis-wire! Good advice too

Mis-wire? Surely not on a Dutchman product! I am sure they dilligently followed the wiring diagram that they have.

My outside speakers actually don't sound that bad and will go louder than any campground would allow, unfortunately they're so high up the sound travels farther than it should. I use my jawbone for outside tunes.

The Furrion head unit, complete garbage. I tore it out once just to do it and it takes all of 3 minutes. I would think any after market double din unit would fit with no problem.

Gee, I guess I was the lucky one here (just kidding) I paid for the $500.00 speaker upgrade and got speakers that I can buy on Amazon for $50.00 and no subwoofer. It actually took weeks of phone calls to Keystone to get them to understand that at least they should have provided a subwoofer. So... after they finally agreed to install it, the dealer had all the settings on the unit cranked to max and it blew up the first time I turned it on. Continuous motorboating at ear busting volume. I tried to adjust it to a useable level with the directions downloaded from the Mfg, but it was shot. Of course nobody would take responsibility for that one. Lesson learned, I should have tried it before leaving the lot, but with a dead battery and other repairs that were not completed, I had other things to address at the time. Oh, thats right, the battery was dead because they wired the subwoofer hot and didn't connect the control wire to power it on/off. Camping World and Keystone, the Abbot and Costello of the RV industry.

Thanks for the advice. I'll look into both the Polk and fusion speakers then.

Just to update, when I went to order the fusion speakers that were kindly suggested here, I couldn't stop myself from clicking the "related" items and ended up ordering the Polk DB522 speakers instead. 2 pair for inside. (zone 1)

Because I fear the depth for the bedroom overhead will not be deep enough for 1 pair, I ordered a set of extension rings to add 1" if I need it. (they are $7 a pair. so no worry if wasted)

So I will be happy to report how they sound connected to the Furrion weenie unit.

Dawniewest, I must confess, since I don't actually haul this thing around, I have a full home audio setup outside on the "porch"
I have 2 Paradigm studio reference speakers and a Paradigm sub hidden in plants and covered with plastic for weather protection. The Denon amp is in a Home Depot plastic storage closet that is rainproof. (It's my porch closet for lots of gear and storage)

Anyways, if I have company, I Bluetooth the phone\playlist to the Denon.
Yea, it is a head turner. Folks are looking around wondering where that rich sound is coming.

Tons of plants and furniture camouflage the whole setup.

Obviously I wouldn't go through all the trouble for setup and take down if I were traveling. Instead, I'd just use the portable Bluetooth speaker(s) like you mention. There are some really nice ones these days.

I have a 2017 Voltage 4150 that had this problem but a little worse. Once I fixed the wiring everything much better.

Nate42379 and snakebitten,
I thought I needed 6.5" speakers per previous post but snakebitten just said he bought DB522 instead of DB651. Granted I have not opened my trailer up yet to measure. Are most Voltages 5.25" or 6.5"?
Roughly how much depth is in these roof panels?

I had 6.5 Sony marine speakers in the ceiling which are standard depth speakers and 4 way sonys in the outside entertainment area in my 13 3905

Don't go by what I purchased until I confirm.
I may well have bought the wrong size.

I assumed all the reviews stating how happy they were replacing their "RV" speakers indicated more than it might have.

Wouldn't be the first time I goofed.

The ones I got where 6 inch shallow mount. (see other post for the link) They replaced exactly the ones in my Aspen Trailer 19900rb TT. And are not that much heavier, since are mounted in cheap ceiling material. Did not want the heavy magnets. We pretty much use these for TV speakers and sound good enough for "camping".
