Fuel tanks slow to fill

Don't know if this is a problem only on mine or maybe with the California emissions.
I found that it took quite awhile to fill both my fuel tanks. Even when totally empty I couldn't put the fuel nozzle in & set on the first notch as it would keep shutting off. Had to pull the nozzle back out & do by hand. Front tank was even harder as I filled it with diesel to use for my tow vehicle. Is it just my unit or do others have the same problem. Both tanks fill hose & breather lines aren't bent so I know that isn't the problem.

I have that same problem. If the station has slow pumps the first notch might work, but at most places I have to fill by hand.

On my Torque TH the fill line had a dip in the hose that caused the fuel to back up... I zip tied a yard stick under the fill hose and it seemed to help.

I thought that might be the same issue with my Voltage, but I also checked and... "Both tanks fill hose & breather lines aren't bent so I know that isn't the problem."

Since there isn't an emissions vapor return system like on an auto they probably will fill slowly.

Look under the tanks and you'll see the carbon canister down there, that's emissions stuff.

I have the same problem. It is really a pain every time I fill up. I have filled up in many states and many different kinds of service stations. Pilot's, Flying J's, etc. It's the same problem every time.

My "carbon canister" may fall to the wayside as it constantly leaks gas - even when there is less than 1/4 tank...

I guess it's kind of a good thing to know I'm not alone.

I had the same issue and crawled under to find that the "vent hose" was too long and kinked. I cut it to the correct size and have had no issues since.

I too have that problem (that I can't just crack it open and leave it) I have found that if I twist the pump handle a bit and hold it on the first level, she'll fill up fine.

I will doublecheck my hose though.

Other thing I found is the front tank was slow to pump. Did found a fix for that. I cracked the fuel cap to allow it to breath & pumped way faster.

Cracked the fuel cap?? What fuel cap are you talking about? You obviously don't mean the gas cap because it has to be removed to put the fuel in. Apparently I'm missing something… sorry.

Yes I'm talking the front tank cap. It was creating a vacuum so I unscrewed it a turn or so & now pumps out way faster. I do retighten it once I'm finished pumping fuel. I'm using diesel fuel in the front tank not gas. I'm talking pump fuel out of it into a fuel can or truck.

That makes sense… I was confused because my front tank feeds the generator, not the rear.

Sorry… didn't make the connection.

What model do you have? Front tank on every Voltage I've seen is for the hand pump. Rear tank is for the generator.

2014 3950... front tank is generator (gasoline, not diesel) rear tank is toy tank.

The vent hose is nearly always the problem for slow fills.

As noted it can be kinked.

I've also found one my previous Toyhauler that the vent hose came out the top of the tank, then drooped over the side of the tank about half way down. That forms a "fluid leg" that doesn't allow air to move out of the tank except via the fill line, and then filling is very slow or spits gas at you all the time.

Proper venting is critical. See how yours is routed and make sure its at least 1/2" ID hose!

I have a 2014 3950 and the rear tank is for the generator and front tank is the toy tank. I pump gasoline from the front tank to the rear tank all the time. I always fill the front tank at the Flying J and add Sea Foam to it.

1/2" ID vent hose would be nice but with the way the vent tube on the tank & filler it's 3/8" I will double check to see if it'is too long & drops below the tank top.

I don't understand… how is it possible that we have the same trailer but the tanks are backwards?

Weird…

Hmmm...well my 2014 3800 has the toy tank up front and the generator in the rear.

Neither is marked, but per the Voltage info, the toy tank is the larger, and its in the front.

Have you looked under the toyhauler.? Check where the pump piping goes. I think you will find it draws from the front tank. Front tank is larger by 10 gallons over the rear tank. 40 gal vs 30 on the regular voltages & 30 gal vs 20 gal on the V-series
