I decided that if I shared everything I new about a piece of equipment or a problem being reviewed...it would always come back around, And you know that never cost me my job! Just made me lots of friends and a hell of a reputation! And in power houses, when it came to equipment issues, managing turnarounds, new projects, information is everything!!!

I always tried to teach my guys everything I knew, it always made my job easier and you never knew when someone would come up with a better idea. Our company still has few of the old school, "my way or the highway" guys in it... unfortunately.
I am the only EH&S guy in our company that has ever had hands on field experience. The teams appreciate it and I get calls all the time from them even if their project isn't assigned to me. They know I can be reached and will get them an answer, even if I don't know what it is, I will find out and get back to them with it. Goes a long ways in getting cooperation where it counts.
