"Dumb Man" Question

Or just plain lack of experience!

2015 Rubicon does not charge the batteries when plugged-in to shore power. Charges when attached to pull vehicle and running only. Converter bad?

How are you determining that the battery is charging via the tow vehicle and not by the converter?

Sounds like the converter is a reasonable place to start trouble shooting. The converter could be unplugged, have it's power supply breaker switched off, or have blow fuses rather than having gone bad.

You could also have a bad connection between the converter and batteries, or at the battery terminals themselves, so the converter is essentially not seeing the battery. Once you plug into the tow vehicle, the battery voltage display will see and report the vehicle voltage while your camper battery is still not in the circuit (and not charging).

Get out a multimeter and check voltage at many locations. Your converter should be providing around 13.6V to the batteries depending on what model it is.

Thanks so much ewarnerusa. Just re-checked all of the fuses again and have found 2 blown 40 amp littlefuses. These are listed as the reverse polarity fuses. As soon as a did a temp bypass of the fuse, the converter came on (fan running)!!!! Sometimes it's the little things that you overlook! I'll replace the fuses and post the results. Thanks again, Robert

Sometime in the past, somebody had the battery in backwards. Remember, on Crossroads, the BLACK wire goes to battery positive, and the WHITE wire goes to negative/ground. Color coded sort of like house wiring, i.e. black is hot, white is neutral/ground.

Replaced both 40 amp fuses. Picked up a couple of spares to carry in the trailer, and back to charging. Thanks for help guys. Will post if further issues.
