Does your hitch / pinbox make this noise?

This is a video I took of unhooking my 3950 yesterday.

What do you think? It didn't usta make this noise and one time it was much worse.

Wondering if the hitch needs more lube?

I have limited knowledge of an RV fifth wheel mechanism, I think they are similar to semi trucks where you take some weight off the truck suspension and drive out from under them? It seems like you're putting a lot of torque on the hitch by lifting it way to high? My old gravel train only took a few cranks of the landing gear to unhitch it. Although I didn't hear anything that sounded too alarming besides the landing gear motor straining.

Hopefully someone will call me out if i'm full of it.

When it first happened it was much worse and I thought it was in the pin box. Enough so that we pulled down the skirting and inspected the whole front end of the 5er. Found many ugly looking welds but nothing broken.

Now I'm wondering if it's in the hitch??

It's really hard to tell the point of origin. I'm hoping somebody else hears the noise we've got and says I had that and it was: so and so...

Are you blocking the RV's wheels, perhaps putting a strain on the pin as it rises? Maybe the pin is tight against the jaws and creaking like an old man on a rainy day.
From the video everything looks good between the 5th wheel and the pin box but who knows.

You may be right Sundancer. Can't speak to your pinbox, but are all your fittings greased. Mine has several inside (thanks to whomever posted that information on this site a year or two ago)?

This hitch is pretty primitive. There is a grease fitting for the jaw. I have a nylon plate for turning. I pulled the head and greased the support arms for forward and backward rocking. I can't figure out how to lube the side to side pivot.

Yep, all six of them if I remember correctly. I have the nylon donut on the pin also.

I would imagine the side to side pivot would be serviced by the 5th wheel.

Just a point here, a noise is created by a vibration. Something creating friction somewhere is causing the vibration and therefore the noise.

On my Reese there is just the heavy bar that provides side to side movement. I usually spray the joints with a good lubricate before hitching the RV to it.

"If you are using a spray lubricant, you can for that into the axle area, otherwise it is not accessible."

Joe, It was hard to see, but did you still have the pin in and the Arm not pulled, When you are removing your truck, the jacks are down, raise some, then as you slowly move the truck, the Trailer should move back a little, and slide off, I think you are putting to much Straining on the Trailer Hitch

Could you explain that again please? I'm not sure what I could do differently.

I raise the RV just until the point I see a tiny separation between the kingpin and the hitch, then I pull the arm and drive out from underneath.

But I didn't get to the arm pulling and driving out parts in the video.

Joe, I have found that once the legs touch the ground, I pull the handle and then raise the RV until I see most of the weight off the Hitch, I then slowly put the truck forward, The Trailer slides off the Hitch and drops a little, I haven't seen any Straining on the Trailer.
