Cost for a new roof?
Can anyone give me an "idea" of the cost for a new roof on our Rubicon 2900 (approx. 31'L x 8.9'w)?
Tore a HUGE hole in the roof and need to have it replaced...trying to get an idea of cost!
Thanks

Practicing ventilation methods on your own roof?
Could the hole be patched instead of replacing the whole thing?

It is "patched" however we would feel better if the roof was replaced.
The new "ventilation mod" is about 4' long and up to 10" wide and a few (4) additional "poke" holes maybe 4" in diameter - and it took off the side "trim" to hold the roof on......tree limb really did a job!!!!
Turned it into insurance and have a check in hand for $4850 - but I KNOW it will cost much more than that - just trying to figure out how much more!!!
Hope someone can give some insight.....

Best place to shop is the RV repair shops, they'll know how much it'll cost.

I know we're in the sticks/woods of Maine. My local repair facility averages about $5000.00 a roof. He's been doin' a pile of 'em. He just completed a roof on a motorhome that tried to squeeze beneath a railroad bridge. Why won't a 12' motorhome fit beneath an 11'6" railroad bridge? This one took out 3 air conditioners, satellite dish, and vents.....let alone the OSB board. Talk about a bad day .

Thanks for the info - we are also in the "sticks" and will travel in order to have it DONE RIGHT!
I can live with $5000.00 and will try calling some shops next week but I thought I would throw it out here to see if anyone had any idea!

With your check you should have gotten an estimate detailing the cost with a breakdown of materials and labor.
Your $5000 estimate is probably for about $1500 of materials with the balance of $3500 for labor (35 hours @ $100 per hr) The material and labor cost used by the adjuster to prepare your estimate should be standard for the region.
If the shop needs more to repair your roof it should be because there was damage not included in the original estimate that would involve additional materials/labor. In this case you should be able to file a supplemental claim to pay for any additional material/labor cost not included in the original estimate.

I am aware of the "supplemental" that can be gotten if the work is in excess of the check....Leo owned his own auto body shop for many years and I spent too many hours "convincing" adjusters of the need for additional money!
Yes I did get an estimate but it is thru Mitchell estimating and sometimes they are way off in their estimates (used their computerized system - back in the days!)
Thanks for the info, I appreciate it!

I thought insurance paid *after* the estimate, not before.

Kathy,
I went through this same situation...
I drug the roof on my last trailer with a tree branch and was able to patch it. It was a smaller tear, two spots of about 2 X 4 inches but they were about 10 ft apart along the edge. I ran a 15 ft X 12 inch strip of Dicor sealing tape overlapping the edge to the drip rail covering both spots.
After a year, without any problems from the patch, I turned in an insurance claim when I went to sell the trailer and got that same $5000 check for a roof replacement on my 38 ft toy hauler. AZ, Foremost did my estimate over the phone and direct deposited the funds, they never even saw the trailer.
I offered the trailer for sale with a new roof or a $5000 discount. The guy that bought it opted for the discount so I never repaired the roof. He parks next to me at the storage yard and another year later he hasn't had any problems with the patch either.
Over the years I've had a couple of blowouts and on one was able to get the insurance company (also Foremost) to issue a supplemental check for additional damage without any problem.

Thanks Mike & Helen - basically you answered my question about the $ amount - we have Progressive and I was handed a check just shy of the $5000.00 when the adjuster came to take a look at it. (Adjuster inspected, wrote an estimate and handed me a check all within an hours time).
Leo is very leery about leaving the patch the way it is - that is why I'm searching for ball park costs to replace a roof.....there is NO underlying damage, as we fixed it within hours of the original damage.
Thanks for the info!

A lot will depend on structural damage to the roof. If it is just a tear then it could be patched for much less, but if there is structural damage it could run much more for roof replacement. There is a nation wide company that will come to your home and replace the roof, it is called RV Roof Armor and is Basically a recoat job and some minor repair. Here is a Link

I just had an estimate done to replace the roof on our 2013 Voltage 3200 which is 35 feet long give or take a few inches. The total repair estimate was $9000.00 That was ripping it all off, replacing all the wood underneath, new gutters etc. We had a massive hail storm and the hail was hard enough and large enough that it hit with enough force to detach the rubber membrane from the wood on the roof.
Hope that info helps.
Troy
