Cap Insulation Idea?

Seems like the cabinetry in our V3605 bedroom reflects the outside temperature - on a cold morning, it's noticeably cold to the touch. On a hot day, it's similarly warm/hot. When we toured the plant I noticed a few bats of insulation draped vertically over the bedroom cabinets before cap installation on one rig on the line. I didn't pay close enough attention to see if more were added later, or if those were the extent of it.

I'm wondering if additional insulation could be blown in from the inside by creating an access point in the cabinets, or if it could be as simple as pouring in enough shipping peanuts to fill the voids between the cap and the cabinetry .... And I'm sure the ceiling could benefit from more - but I think it would be a booger to do.

Any thoughts or ideas?

There is a small amount of insulation on the side walls in the cap as well. It looks to be about an inch or so thick. Not all over those walls as well. You can see it if you pop out the outlets and shine a light in there. You can also see there isn't any at all towards the front of the cap.

Everything I've thought about has always come up with settling or drooping. I think any loose insulation would be impacted by the bouncing of the rig and would eventually fall to the floor.

Spray foam may work as it will stick and might not be affected by the motion and road bounce.

Holes could be cut in the backs of the cabinets and then plugged somehow but I see limited access that way. A larger window could be cut into the headboard area to give good access and visability. The cut out could be saved and trimmed out to look like a panel there. I'm still thinking on it and may contact a spray foamer person.

Let us know what the insulation guy says if/when you contact them. I like the idea of opening up a headboard access panel. Now I'm wondering if there would be room for a hidden cabinet that could hold a few things...

It's a big ole empty space back there. You could keep your gold bars back there, you know, the ones you saved by purchasing a Dutchman product.

Now you've got my curious bug going. The lighting by the headboard could use some improvement and cutting a section out would make it easier to install new lights, work on the insulation and install some hidden storage.

I got some exploring to do.

This could be useful to you - pulled it from another thread this morning - it's a CAD drawing of the 3950, but imagine they all gotta be close when it comes to the cap. Appears to be a lot of room in there.

If we could remove the nose and fill it with Spray Foam, I think that would be the way to go. Would not have to worry about it being uneven. Could let it expand and then cut out areas to fit around the supports.

A good idea but scary since some of the TT owners have complained about caps pulling loose from the body.

The way things are screwed up, er screwed together, that cap full of foam might be too heavy for the way its mounted.

Excellent! The profile shows a lot of wasted space.

As for the weight, good point. If you can pull the cap, then it would be easier to install the cabinet and lighting mods. Then you could spray the cabinets rather than the cap.

Not sure how it is mounted but what about re-inforcing the inside with Fiberglass where its bolted?

Should be easy enough to do with the cap off.
