Atwood hot water heater

OK, so when we got home from Arizona in March I blew all the water out of the piping, bypassed the hot water heater and drained it.

On May 7th we travelled to Moab, UT for an off road rally. Got everything hooked up...turned on the electric hot water heater. After a bit, no water flow.

Outside to check. Dang! Left the Hot Water Heater bypassed, so it was empty. Flipped the bypass levers and promptly filled the water heater.

Works fine on gas...nothing on electric. I'm guessing I killed the electric element. Every scrap of information I have from Atwood has NS (Not Shown) for the electric element.

Anyone help me find it, get another and change it out?

Thanks,

Pirate

Pirate,

Looks like the electric element is on the inside of the heater.

Any idea of how to get to the back of the water heater?

Guess I'll figure that out when it quits raining....

Thanks,

Pirate

Looks like a removal project to change out the element.

I guess Atwood couldn't copy the Suburban design, with the element accessible from outside.

So maybe this is a time to look into one of the tankless hot water heaters???
The Rinnai in the house sure works great!!

I don't think I could handle looking for a sani-dump everyday. Or I could pull the fues when DW steps into the shower. Maybe not, last time I did something like that it didn't end well. For me!

I thought about it, but remember... tankless runs on propane only, no electric. If you boondock a lot, no problem. But campground electric is usually free (except monthly rates).

I didn't go that way because I could see me going thru a LOT of propane.

BTW... I'll be towing thru your area in a couple of days (US-50), on my way to Montrose. Gonna be staying there for a couple of weeks.

Not much road construction on Hwy 50 this Summer, so you should have a pretty good trip.

Montrose is nice country! Take that Goldwing up over McClure Pass and down to Redstone. A favorite ride of mine. Then take the North Rim of the Gunnison and see the black canyon from the beautiful side!

Safe Travels!!
