Arizona for the Winter...

Just curious if anyone else is planning to spending the winter in AZ?

I'm all set up in Casa Grande, about 30 miles southeast of Phoenix...

I'm spending two weeks on Phoenix in January...does that count?

Nope... just going to hang out here in the Coastal Plains of NC and hope for a mild winter. Bad news is I have to make a couple of trips to NY in January for work.

We take off in January. We'll head to Tucson, AZ for a few weeks then onto San Diego, CA where we'll set up at the Mission Bay RV resort for February and possibly March.

It's a funny thing, after living in southern Arizona for nearly 27 years and, along with others, poking fun at the snowbirds that inhabit the RV parks, I now belong to a forum dedicated to RVing and snowbirding.

Yeah, kinda ironic.

I'm sure you've heard this one before... but I first heard this by a local yesterday, and thought it was pretty funny:

"Folks up north can tell when winter's coming because the leaves begin to change color. We can tell because the license plates begin to change colors."

No I spend the winter out here by Palm Springs Ca. Only been doing it for the past 45 years. Oh and the summer to, that's why I'm a Desert Rat.
Will be going over to Quartzsite again in January for the big RV tent show they have every year. Been doing that for 15+ years with RV friends from church.

Also the driving patterns!!

I think you stayed in the Picacho Peak RV place in your travels. In the summer is as bare as but when the leaves change she starts filling up. I'd go past there on the way to Phoenix and see the RVs, that's how I knew winter was on its way.

I'll tell you what Rat, after 27 years in southern Arizona and another 20 years in Mexico I didn't realize what a sun baby I had become. The sun came up most every day in all those years for me. Now, here in Oklahoma, she doesn't make it every day. I'm having to make myself go out and work on the house in the foggy cloudy weather. At first I waited for the sun to shine, no sun so I figured it was cold so in I would stay. Still no sun but not cold so I tell myself it won't get done if I don't get out there and do it. Winter will be coming soon so I can work inside the house but there still won't be the sun.

It's hard to get accustomed to living in an area that has more than two seasons. No more hot and hotter for me!

As a 45 year resident of Arizona I've learned to make reservations at the local restaurants during the December to April time period. Normally we can just walk in and get a table right away at other times of the year.

Not complaining though . We welcome snowbirds here. You are an important part of the Arizona economy.

Well we pick up our 1st RV (the 3950) in Jan and head to AL then FL thru Feb. Got a spot on Lake Lloyd then to Key West to finish the month. After that, hope to hit TX and maybe continue west. Az is not out of the question. Odd, one of my best riding buddies rides a Goldwing.

April 22nd starts the Laughlin River Run, thats my Az trip for winter. Ya, it's still winter in Northern Nevada in April. This year coming back, we fought snow all the way from Hiko to Elko.
